I have a stay booked with MR points in March (standard room). I'm not expecting lounge access because my status is dropping down to Gold (from Plat Elite) at the end of January. Is it possible to buy up to a room with lounge access if the room is booked with points? Alternatively, can one purchase lounge access separately?

Under SPG it was a $150 supplement per room or 1,500 SPG points. Perhaps email the hotel directly?

I had yet another fantastic stay at the Sheraton SYD over Christmas and loved how the staff was very attentive and remembered me from my last stay in September. I managed to luck out and get a room available at 9am on arrival with an upgrade to the Club Floor (so rare in Australasia when you usually need to wait a bit).

They do offer upgrades to the Club level subject to availability but this only covers two people.

I’ve stayed at the Sheraton once a few weeks back and the Marriott three times now. Hands down the Sheraton wins and will get my business from here on.

The lounge was fantastic, staff super attentive asking if I wanted drinks or eggs cooked to order. Excellent lounge

the bed was top notch. I value a heavy weighted duvet and this was probably the heaviest duvet I’ve seen yet in a hotel so I truly appreciated it. What I didn’t like though were the pillows, bit too firm for me but duvet compensated

my one complaint, the towel rack was attached to the back of the glass shower which resulted in the clean towels hanging a mere foot or so directly above the toilet bowl. Implication being anything you flushed, particles ended up on the towels. Not exactly sanitary

I’ll return and move my towels but overall great hotel

pro-tip: close the toilet lid before you flush

Right by the Club door on the wall, there is a permanent notice on how to upgrade to gain Club Access. I cannot remember the rate now but it definitely is not trivial amount... With the evening lounge offering, (raw oysters and King prawn every evening), no way they would give you free access for additional guests.
Sorry, I'm a little confused. Does this Sheraton not offer breakfast in the lounge to Plats staying on points? Isn't that guaranteed by SPG (and now SPG/Marriott's) rules?

First of all, they sell lounge access with fixed prices shown on a plague permanently and prominently nailed on the wall by the lounge entrance door.

Plat do get lounge access and the breakfast at lounge is standard.

Restaurant breakfast is one of the 3 welcome amenities the Plat can choose from - they are
1) 1000 pts,
2) a small stuffed animal which no doubt is Made in China and probably costs <$3.00 at WalMart / Target
3) Restaurant breakfast for the stay.

We chose option 3 as the welcome amenity. We were given 5 cards with the dates written on it but no room number (probably forgotten by the check in agent) and told to give 1 card to the staff at the entrance of the restaurant each morning.

Restaurant breakfast has a lot more options but the main thing is, it is much more comfortable because it has proper tables and chairs designed for sit down meal. Lounge does not have proper dining seating at all. The seating and the tiny low tables are NOT for comfortably eating a meal.

I have a five night stay at the Sheraton Grand Sydney coming up next week, with my points reservation upgraded to an executive suite with SNA's. I noticed on the hotel website that it is possible to do check-in at the lounge and was curious if there is any benefit to this. I've stayed there before and had the opportunity I guess, but I've never taken advantage of the option. Is there much to be gained? Thanks for your thoughts!

the lounge is accessible via an elevator ride only which you will need to walk past checkin to get to. The lounge is also accessible via key card. I’m sure you could knock and get in but I’m not sure what value you get by going to lounge to check in. Odds being your room is then on another floor so you have a second elevator ride.

Tell the doormen or concierge you want to check in at the club lounge. They will escort you up the lift and let you in. It can be very important when lines are long.

Just back from a terrific stay at the Sheraton Grand Sydney! Good checkin at front desk, good Plat Premier Elite recognition, nice upgraded room (exec suite overlooking Hyde Park).

The only weird element was that they didn't seem to know that I had used Suite Night Awards that cleared 5 days in advance. They told me I was upgraded to a suite based on status only.

I'll live with that!

Refurb is a slight improvement

Refurb is a slight improvement (8 Photos)

Sheraton on the Park

Did a quick one night stay at the former SOTP, now Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park.

Check In

Despite completing OLCI, check in took forever as the agent tried to sell us a Grand Terrace Suite for an extra $300. While these rooms are huge at 3 x the size of Exec Suites, and were the original Terrace Suites in the 90s, the Mariott app was offering the upgrade for $279 after OLCI and I couldn't justify it for none night.

Room

Booked an Exec Suite. Since Mariott have taken over they seem to have divided rooms into more categories. Exec Suite says 'City View' which means back of the hotel but there are no suites on that side, so I think it means lower floor.

Was upgraded to a 'Grand Exec Suite' because I requested 16th floor or higher so I could see the Harbour.

The refurb is mainly cosmetic, new upholstery, carpet, paint and a a selfie circle mirror inn the bathroom made for the 'influencer' market. The TV screen with no branding and the guest's name feels really cheap.

That said, the view of Hyde Park, St Mary's Cathedral and the Harbour Heads are always beautiful.

Dining

Got to the club lounge which has always been exemplary, and one of the best in the World IMHO, at 4:50PM and we grabbed the last table. Lots of guests walking in with nowhere to sit. The club serves King Prawns, Oysters but the Vodka is Absolutel which I refuse to drink. People were waiting for others to leave to get a table. Was suprised to see children in the lounge, typically they weren't allowed entry after 5PM because of RSA.

Breakfast in the lounge was disappointing. The barista coffee is good but the only hot options are horrible folded, scrambled eggs or hard boiled. They used to make eggs to order. We decided to go to Feast for the $15 uncharge and the chefs said "We don't make Eggs Benedict." I told them they did and to ask the chefs in the kitchen and they were delivered to our table. I didn't eat anything else at breakfast.

Curiously, there were lots of people in gym gear in the club lounge for breakfast and running shorts. The hotel ifnormation letter states work out wear isn't acceptable but the staff didn't say anything.

It's worth nothing they discount the buffet 50% for in house guests.

Overall

Oversall, this first stay since the reno and Mariott took over and had a quick conversation with a staff member who has worked in the hotel and looked after me on previous stays.

We both agreed Mariott is crap and they were fielding so many complaints from guests about upgrades and the program itself.

The SGSHP is still a good hotel for the suites when you don't want to spend $1,000 at the PH.

Would you like to write a review on the Sheraton on the Park?

No, thank you.

Why would you compare this hotel to PH Sydney?

The suites are the same price point as rooms at the PH and two hotels I frequent.
