Avis credit

How does it work with Avis Credit? Do you try to rent a cheap Avis rental yourself and use the certificate? Thanks.

If you are interested in staying out past 10, I recommend skipping the state of Hawaii (well, maybe Honolulu is OK)...head down to Cancun instead! Hawaii has always been for families and couples...not really the party spot.

Also, people on this board really seem to obsess over room types/amenities. I would try and focus on your vacation instead...when I'm in the tropics, they only time I spend in my room is when I'm sleeping. In fact, that goes for most any vacation. A nice room and hotel certainly makes the vacation more enjoyable, but is not the end all, at least IMHO.

Aloha and enjoy Hawaii!

You have to book through Avis directly using the resort's wizard number. When I did it, I was booking for longer than the five days, so I just had to pay the overage. You give them your voucher number when you book.

This hotel has enhanced it's Platinum recognition in the last year. We were offered a choice of three Welcome Amenities and chose the daily continental breakfast. Also given a discount card that is given to SVO 3 Elites. Also invited to a reception for SVO 3 & 5 Elites. None of these benefits existed a year ago.

All good changes!

Oh i can't wait! We leave Feb 10th for our ODD year usage on the North side. I'm now Platinum this year with Starwood but only own 1 week so hearing some SPG Platinum perks at the property is exciting

I am still tossing up between booking this property on SPG points or P&C if they ever release space; or booking Maui Hyatt next door. I am more concerned with having lush, tropical grounds and being on the beach than the moderness of the rooms. If I did book this on points, would they be likely to upgrade me as a Gold member? We don't need a suite but ocean view would be nice!

The other option is try my luck on Priceline, it's usually either the Westin, Sheraton or Hyatt that people win.

The Westin Maui hotel is next to Whaler's Village and near the Hyatt. The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas is a different property (a timeshare) and is a little further north. Just want to make sure you're aware there are two different Westin options.

Is Cash & Points eligible to earn Starpoints?

Hi,

i learned that “A qualifying rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program”. I wonder if Cash+points can earn any Starpoints? What about BRG?

Thanks.

I'm hearing conflicting info. . .so as SVO "owners" thats not really an "Eligible" rate for SPG Platinum status so no breakfast perks. . I knew it wouldn't help any with upgrade chances but was surely hoping as owners they started offering breakfast

Oh well maybe we can squeak it in when we get there next Sunday.

Owners's usage (home resort, StarOptions, II trade, directly or indirectly through an owner) aren't qualifying rates...
