Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto, Japan [Master Thread]

Scheduled opening March 23, 2015 but still not accepting reservation. Anyone knows the actual opening date and when they start accepting reservation?

It's usually announced here. You can just do a quick check on SPG.com once a week. My guess is that it will be delayed.

Here's the official Japanese website.
http://www.suirankyoto.com/

According to this page, reservation starts on Feb. 27th at 9am(JST), possibly only by phone. Apparently the special opening plan is called "KYO collection", costing 49,500yen/person(excl. tax+service) including dinner and breakfast, and a complimentary taxi or rickshaw ride from the station.

Interesting. Anyone know what category property this will be (i.e. how many points per night?)

At that rate if it's not Cat 7 I'll be booking my flight to Kyoto straight away.

I have a strong feeling that this hotel will be the 1st spg category 7 in japan.

According to http://www.starwoodhotels.com/luxury...ropertyID=4239, Suiran will be a Cat 6, but it would still become the highest SPG category hotel in Japan.

Wow, that's spectacular.

Currently they're only accepting reservations through spg.com or directly by phone and not at customer service. I wonder when they'll let us book with points or awards.

I would give it overnight for the database to catch up with the activation and try it again. Let us know if it isn't resolved in 24 hours.

Thanks, I'll do that.
Once the database is updated, should it be possible to book with points/awards straight away?

Everything looks to be set up correctly, but this appears to be an all-suite property, so you may have to call into customer service to get it done.

Just as an FYI, it appears that they will also be allowing for upgraded awards using Starpoints.

It worked. However they seem to have an inventory issue where the lowest standard rooms are somehow unavailable for award bookings completely unavailable.
I'm asking them to check if the property is eligible for SPG AMEX awards(cat.1-6), which would be plain amazing.
Thank you!

If it's considered to be an all-suite property, aren't you required to pay twice as many points for award stays in the category?
