Lobby renovation is complete. Executive lounge is on ground floor (not a M Lounge).

I have only ever experienced extreme sympathy from hotel staff when dealing with lost luggage. I'd say this person was acting rogue.

Hello again, only 10:30pm in London and fighting the time zone battles right now....lol

I was made aware of the dress code when the young man asked me to leave. He gave me a small card which included lounge hours. At the bottom of the card dress is covered by a statement of casual elegance is required. I asked him if this was an evening requirement and he said no it is for the entire time the lounge is open. I asked if shorts were ok in the am before leaving for tours or jeans were ok and he said neither would be tolerated and allowed in the lounge.

Hey only first day of 17 in Europe I cannot get too upset about being asked to leave an executive lounge full of other guests.....lol. If this is the worse thing to happen I am already ahead.

Wow, I expect on a warm August day I would be wearing shorts before heading out for a day of touring. Not ripped or anything, but shorts. So now we have to change after breakfast to go out.

Sounds like I may be about to regret canceling my booking at the Marriott Park Lane in favor of the Grosvenor House. Doubt my standard jeans/t-shirt is going to make the cut, and I'm certain my son's trainers, basketball shorts, and t-shirt will not fly.

I hope there is some reassuring clarification on this soon. My stay starts on the 7th and I'm about to start looking for a back up. Perhaps I should email the manager before I do anything drastic.

Casual elegance? Do they expect a jacket and tie for breakfast?

I would call Plat customer care immediately just to make them look stupid, and I would switch the rest of my stay to a different property. That is completely ridiculous, even for Brits. Do they think it's a private club or something?

Unless the dress code is posted online at the time of booking, I have a big problem with it. The lounge is a factor in my choice of hotels. I canceled another reservation that I would have kept, had I been aware of this policy (still hoping it's not true).

I am currently sitting on a plane 3 hours out of LHR. It's too late to change what I have packed. I also don't think that I should have to purchase a new wardrobe in order to eat breakfast.

I wonder, given that Marriott Plats are guaranteed breakfast, if they would let us have ours in the restaurant, should our attire not pass muster. Regardless, if it comes to that, I'll probably book elsewhere.

That is definitely something I would take issue with. Here at home in NYC, jeans have become perfectly acceptable wear at a substantial percentage of newly opened upscale restaurants, and I certainly wouldn't expect for slacks to be required at a hotel club lounge.

And I thought Marriott was trying to cater to millennials now?

We most definitely wore shorts at the JW in Hong Kong in July.

This thread reminds me that there are very few areas of common agreement anymore.

If the story the OP is telling is completely true and he hasn't left out any relevant facts, then the behavior of the lounge attendant is absurd. The only thing I can think of is that some stuck-up guest complained while the OP was in the bathroom so the attendant felt compelled to act. But to basically strong-arm him out of the lounge without even letting him retrieve his wife first to let her know what was going on is ridiculous.

And I agree that the lost luggage should have gotten the OP a little more leeway than usual, not to mention the platinum status (lifetime is, in this case, irrelevant). So again, as long as there's not more to the tale than we're hearing, this situation definitely calls for GM notification while at the hotel, and Marriott customer service notification after the fact.

Unsure if DJ_Iceman is saying that I am lying about what occurred last night. Some point of clarification though from his post, I was allowed to get my wife and then leave the lounge.

Some additional points of clarification in case there are questions:

We do not drink alcohol so we were not making a scene.

Sharon has stayed at this hotel before so she will identify that we were sitting in the back corner of the lounge, the farthest corner away from the entrance door.

There were many younger guests in the lounge, so the rule on the card of only two room guests allowed into the lounge at a time obviously was not being followed.

During our visits to the lounge in the afternoon all marriott employees in the lounge were as nice as any we have ever met in any Marriott property. I think every single one of them told us about the lounge layout in the evenings and we needed to visit the lounge in the evening.

Other than this one incident out stay has been great. The hotel is awesome, staff extremely nice and helpful. Getting ready to head down for breakfast, I will see if my jeans and polo shirt make it through the lounge door....lol

I have worn shorts in this lounge without issue. I frequently will travel with Only jeans and 1 pair of slacks. I can't see how Nice jeans and a nice shirt (collared or not) is not acceptable. You can dress like that eat at some of the nicest places in Miami, NYC, Vancouver, Etc. I see no reason why that would not be acceptable.

For that matter any place that FORCES a dress code like you must have a jacket (Venice Casino for example) have had Jackets there for you to put on.

I see a number of people swinging by the lounge after working out, i would be included as one of them. I have never had an issue in over 1300 lifetime nights. Which probably 700 plus were at full service hotels.
