People seem to like it when I post photos of my brochures, so I thought it'd be fun to chart the Palace Madrid's journey through various chains. The dates are printing dates of the brochures, not the precise dates of the name changes:

CIGA Hotels - 1994
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f7f2bdcb03.jpg

The Luxury Collection - ITT Sheraton - 1997
The Luxury Collection used CIGA's old corporate logo for many years (the 4 horses of St. Mark) and also kept all the individual logos CIGA had devised for the hotels themselves. They even kept the exact layout of the old CIGA brochures for years.

Dual-branded, Westin and LC - 2004
Under the photo it says "Member of The Luxury Collection." Starwood moved a bunch of old CIGA hotels from The Luxury Collection to Westin, but kept them dual-branded in both chains for a few transitional years. A few hotels ended up not completing the move and returning to the LC, like The Westin Bristol in Vienna and The Westin Maria Cristina in San Sebastian.

Westin - 2006
First brochure printed after the LC branding was fully removed.

The Westin Bristol? No wonder I loved Hotel Bristol so much - it was a Westin!

I like to hope SGS stays the SGS and a LC forever. It just feels right. Ooof, I need to go back.

The Sheraton Arlington in Texas has had its demolition approved by the city, so that Loews Hotels (which bought the hotel recently) can build a third hotel in Arlington on the site:

https://ftwtoday.6amcity.com/city/ne...l-arlington-tx

Groundbreaking for the new hotel (directly adjacent to the existing Sheraton) will be 2025 and the Sheraton is required under the agreement to be demolished before Sept 30, 2026.

Newly announced: Le Méridien Zanzibar Resort, which will launch with 75 guest rooms and villas, specialty restaurant, open-air bar, fitness center, swimming pool, spa, kids club and lagoon. The property will be located in Bwejuu on the eastern side of the island overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Finally, some LM development - and a beautiful addition, too. Opening 2025.

No great loss, but Four Points by Sheraton Cleveland Airport has closed permanently.

This on the heels of the Sheraton Cleveland Airport closing a year or so ago, for demolition.

According to this article, Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu in Sardinia's Porto Cervo will be redeveloped into a 150-room W along with other components. No opening date given but based on the hotel's condition, I'd reckon this one is safely several years away.

This JW appears on the Marriott site but isn’t bookable and doesn’t have an opening date. Any insight from locals or frequent travelers to the island? The hotel situation there is grim.

The JW Marriott had a soft opening and is bookable a since March 1st. I’m told they have 50 rooms of the ultimate 200 available. Probably 100 available by April. The total room count will be down by ⅓ from the Westin but they added a number of suites some with private plunge pools facing the ocean and beach.

Structurally it’s the same building as the Westin just completely gutted and internally rebuilt redecorated in a much lighter more modern color palette. The gym is open. The spa hasn’t yet opened but will soon. The small casino has been removed. The restaurant is now an Italian and is open.

A new, rather large Moxy is about to open next month in Barcelona. It is a renovation of the Expo Hotel Barcelona close to the Sants train station and next door to the Nobu Hotel.

Which JW Marriott is this? Unclear from the post and the quote.

Glad to see Marriott adding a rare resort property to Hervey Bay in Queensland some 2 hour drive from Sunshine Coast where Sheraton operated it's Noosa Head resort until 2016.

No opening date was given which is understandable given the difficulties these properties seem to be facing. The Westin Coolum Beach project announced years ago appears to be dead.

JW St. Maarten, former Westin, which was abandoned for years after being destroyed in a hurricane.
