According to this article, Marriott's brand madness is still churning with the following:

"Capuano said a "conversion-friendly" midscale brand targeting the U.S. and Canada region is in the works at Marriott. Conversions are when owners of existing hotels take on a new brand affiliation and "convert" through renovations to the new look. These deals have grown in popularity amid an unfavorable financing environment for new-construction hotels. Conversions represented 30% of the new hotel deals Marriott signed in the first three months of this year."

For the love of all that is good, how much midscale segmenting can one company do? They're up to 3X brands and all we need is yet another mid-level brand [City Express, Four Points Express not enough] that'll most likely earn one elite night per two stayed for half the points and other gutted benefits.

Lunacy.

Think the sooner you understand Marriott’s customers are the hotels not the guests the more you’ll understand why.

Bonvoy is a loyalty programme and booking platform for multiple brands .. if you can’t convince your customers the model for a brand you already has works for them then devise a new one with a package that does!

The 500-key JW Marriott Shanghai Changfeng Park will go through renovations and be rebranded as The
Shanghai EDITION, Changfeng Park

Clearly after parting ways with Ian Schrager, the brand has given up the boutique concept.

We stayed there just before Covid. Very well located, but quite tired property. I hope this has revitalized the space

Could we break this up into a new master thread for the property? Has anyone stayed here before? Would love to hear some feedback around elite recognition, spa access, breakfast etc

I really liked their all-suite setup back in the day. I understand that they broke up some suites as a Conrad to make smaller rooms.
