This is definitely the kind of resort which grows on you over time. I stayed again in January and this time the staff (heartily welcoming me back and remembering what I had been doing) apologetically told me they could only upgrade me to a Plunge Pool Suite due to high occupancy.

I thought that I'd write another review because the difference to the Pool Access Suite is quite interesting. I think it's far from clear which is actually the "better" room.

The Plunge Pool Suite has an entirely outdoor bathroom area which includes a moderate sized inset jacuzzi type setup which I think would be lovely for a couple. The potential downside I could see with the bathroom being entirely outdoor (as opposed to just out of the aircon area) is that in heavy rain it might not be too pleasant.

The main bedroom is also much nicer than that of the higher level Pool suite. There's a beautiful four poster bed with a Thai cover and attractive Thai designs on the walls. This time I had a towel folded into a swan and another "SPG" written in rose petals on the bed.

Interestingly, unlike the higher room, the Plunge Pool Suite is actually a suite. There is a small indoor "living room" (albeit non-aircon) which might be useful for dining in the room, though I can't imagine using it for much else.

I thought the Plunge Pool Suite was a really nice room - the only reasons I can see to prefer the Pool Access Suite are if there are annoying kids in the main pool or if you want an outdoor verandah for private eating, evening drinks, etc.

any experiences with upgrades on points redemptions? Say from the basic room to a plunge pool?

I've booked a rate here that includes return airport transfers. How do I book them? I emailed the hotel but didn't get a response.

My first time to Samui and will be staying at this property for 4 nights over new years. Have booked the plunge pool suite. I am SPG Gold.

Any suggestions on the property or room or Koh Samui in general would be very helpful.

Can you swim in the ocean here? Or is it too rocky/coral-filled?

Thinking about booking 8 nights here, what are the chances of getting a room upgrade as a gold for me and my friend (I will book separate room for him)?

Just booked Plunge Pool Suite @ 18K SPG/night

Last minute decision for a quick getaway in February. Just booked LM Koh Samui and was able to get a Plunge Pool Suite confirmed for 56K points for a 3 night stay. Have been to Koh Samui once before (day stop on a cruise). So, questions are:

1. Is this a good value - i.e. Is the resort worth that?
2. I understand that the Sheraton is a bit of a dump (and that was the only other hotel with availability) - is Le Meridien worth the premium?
3. How does the resort treat Plats? I believe it that one can receive 2 drink tickets/night - what about breakfast?
4. Is it easy to explore Koh Samui from this property?

Thanks!

I have stayed at the LMKS, and was treated very nicely as a Plat (upgraded to an Ocean Front Pool Villa).

But unless you get upgraded, I don't think it's a great redemption though (only ~1.5c per SP; and I look for a minimum of 2.5c per SP).

FYI - you should be able to book the Vana Belle for 26k points per night on the "Paradise is Closer" promotion. You will need to phone in or chat in order to book this option though. Pity you don't have 5 nights, otherwise this could drop the rate to ~20k points per night. Having stayed at both the VB and LMKS, I think the VB is a MUCH better property.

I'm at the VB from Feb 12th-22nd on this promotion...

Under no circumstances stay at the Sheraton Samui. Despite the refurbishment it is a dump, terribly over-priced for direct bookings, filled with cheap package tourists and treats SPG members with distain. An embarrassment to the brand. All the poor reviews of it are from SPG members. The five-star reviews are from package tourists who have clearly (a) never stayed in a Sheraton-branded hotel before and likely (b) never stayed in anything above a hostel before so are overwhelmed and thrilled by things like free soap in a bathroom.

I've stayed at the LMKS last year. I did a review earlier in the thread. I had an amazing time. I really liked the LM for the feel of a boutique hotel and it's still at that SPG has to offer. We were treated very nice as SPG Gold members back then. Tina Lui is the GM and will want to make sure you have an amazing time.

We did not like Koh Samui in general, so we spend many hours in our Pool Access Suite (A)

You may want to consider upgrading with cash, instead of points. I booked a standard award here recently and was offered the upgrade to the plunge pool suite for THB1200 a night + tax.

We had to change our plans due to the flooding in Samui, so I sadly can't comment on any other aspect of the hotel.

LM would be my pragmatic SPG choice on Samui. The W, Luxury Collection and the Design Hotel can have eye-watering rates (this being Samui and all) and as previously indicated the Sheraton does nothing to deserve your attention so LM is worth the small premium. It's a nice boutique hotel with excellent service.

As a Plat I got a room upgrade to a Pool Access Suite, breakfast and the 500 points IIRC and two drinks a day from the bar.

Exploring Samui is the same from pretty much anywhere. Get a car for the day and drive around it. You're some distance from Chaweng which is the main touristy town but you can get around easily enough either in Samui's overpriced "no meter" taxis or the local transport if you're brave enough. Download NaviGo - Samui's version of Uber.

Le Méridien Koh Samui - April 2017

I stayed for two nights at the Le Méridien Koh Samui in April 2017.

As a SPG Gold, I was offered a Plunge Pool Suite upgrade. However, they did not have two beds (I was sharing with a friend) so I stuck with the Verandah Suite.

Unfortunately I have no photos of the Verdanah Suite, gym or swimming pool area.

So here are some photos I have kept of the breakfast. The quality of the meat is very poor. The spread is sufficient and there is an egg station.

Overall, I was not overwhelmed by Le Méridien Koh Samui and I find Koh Samui generally a rip off island compared to the rest of Thailand / South East Asia so I won't be returning.
