This is definitely the kind of resort which grows on you over time. I stayed again in January and this time the staff (heartily welcoming me back and remembering what I had been doing) apologetically told me they could only upgrade me to a Plunge Pool Suite due to high occupancy.
I thought that I'd write another review because the difference to the Pool Access Suite is quite interesting. I think it's far from clear which is actually the "better" room.
The Plunge Pool Suite has an entirely outdoor bathroom area which includes a moderate sized inset jacuzzi type setup which I think would be lovely for a couple. The potential downside I could see with the bathroom being entirely outdoor (as opposed to just out of the aircon area) is that in heavy rain it might not be too pleasant.
The main bedroom is also much nicer than that of the higher level Pool suite. There's a beautiful four poster bed with a Thai cover and attractive Thai designs on the walls. This time I had a towel folded into a swan and another "SPG" written in rose petals on the bed.
Interestingly, unlike the higher room, the Plunge Pool Suite is actually a suite. There is a small indoor "living room" (albeit non-aircon) which might be useful for dining in the room, though I can't imagine using it for much else.
I thought the Plunge Pool Suite was a really nice room - the only reasons I can see to prefer the Pool Access Suite are if there are annoying kids in the main pool or if you want an outdoor verandah for private eating, evening drinks, etc.

Just booked Plunge Pool Suite @ 18K SPG/night
Last minute decision for a quick getaway in February. Just booked LM Koh Samui and was able to get a Plunge Pool Suite confirmed for 56K points for a 3 night stay. Have been to Koh Samui once before (day stop on a cruise). So, questions are:
1. Is this a good value - i.e. Is the resort worth that?
2. I understand that the Sheraton is a bit of a dump (and that was the only other hotel with availability) - is Le Meridien worth the premium?
3. How does the resort treat Plats? I believe it that one can receive 2 drink tickets/night - what about breakfast?
4. Is it easy to explore Koh Samui from this property?
Thanks!

I have stayed at the LMKS, and was treated very nicely as a Plat (upgraded to an Ocean Front Pool Villa).
But unless you get upgraded, I don't think it's a great redemption though (only ~1.5c per SP; and I look for a minimum of 2.5c per SP).
FYI - you should be able to book the Vana Belle for 26k points per night on the "Paradise is Closer" promotion. You will need to phone in or chat in order to book this option though. Pity you don't have 5 nights, otherwise this could drop the rate to ~20k points per night. Having stayed at both the VB and LMKS, I think the VB is a MUCH better property.
I'm at the VB from Feb 12th-22nd on this promotion...

I've stayed at the LMKS last year. I did a review earlier in the thread. I had an amazing time. I really liked the LM for the feel of a boutique hotel and it's still at that SPG has to offer. We were treated very nice as SPG Gold members back then. Tina Lui is the GM and will want to make sure you have an amazing time.
We did not like Koh Samui in general, so we spend many hours in our Pool Access Suite (A)

We had to change our plans due to the flooding in Samui, so I sadly can't comment on any other aspect of the hotel.

As a Plat I got a room upgrade to a Pool Access Suite, breakfast and the 500 points IIRC and two drinks a day from the bar.
Exploring Samui is the same from pretty much anywhere. Get a car for the day and drive around it. You're some distance from Chaweng which is the main touristy town but you can get around easily enough either in Samui's overpriced "no meter" taxis or the local transport if you're brave enough. Download NaviGo - Samui's version of Uber.

Le Méridien Koh Samui - April 2017
I stayed for two nights at the Le Méridien Koh Samui in April 2017.
As a SPG Gold, I was offered a Plunge Pool Suite upgrade. However, they did not have two beds (I was sharing with a friend) so I stuck with the Verandah Suite.
Unfortunately I have no photos of the Verdanah Suite, gym or swimming pool area.
So here are some photos I have kept of the breakfast. The quality of the meat is very poor. The spread is sufficient and there is an egg station.
Overall, I was not overwhelmed by Le Méridien Koh Samui and I find Koh Samui generally a rip off island compared to the rest of Thailand / South East Asia so I won't be returning.
