Do you mean how much cheaper would the Four Points need to be If they recognized Platinum benefits and upgraded Platinum members to suites?

Edited after I saw the Platinum benefits card that was posted on the following page.

It appears they will upgrade to the Junior Suite. I don't know why they wouldn't upgrade to a higher category, if available, but that's their decision. So far, it appears that Yosithezet has recieved an Executive Suite upgrade that turned into a Terrace suite. Perhaps they see that this precedent is good for both sides.

Janet has expressed her frustrations that the 7th floor rooms are stuck, and they are prevented from opening those rooms, despite being very close to being finished. Those from Thailand can appreciate how, at some times, progress is near impossible. I'm guessing there are issues that cannot be made public. That's life.

Once the suites are all open, I hope the upgrade percentage for Platinums increases.

... fingers crossed...

I would turn the question around- how expensive would SGS need to be for me to move to 4P- in which case I would say when SGS exceeded 7000 bht and the Four Seasons was not available- then I would look at the 4P.

Ok I can deal with that, but then go up to room and check the Starwood site to see if any suites were available. Yes at least two types of suites were available. Go down to front desk and ask what the deal is, I was told that there were no suites available, but Starwood site indicates there are suites available. Different front desk personnel checks and says yes there are suites available, but they do not upgrade platinum member to suites. That I can deal with, at least she was truthfull, not like the first one that says no suites available. I just hate to be lied to, just be honest thats all I ask.
Now when I just checked in given a room right next to the elevator, nice room for a Plat right next to the elevator. Not going to complain, just take my business down the street and pay 1000 baht more, and receive nice platinum recongition, with the chance to be upgraded to a nice suite, much better lounge, and well trained staff that do not mislead you, when you ask a question.
I had exactly the same issue !
3 stays there since them opened and none of them I got an upgrade ! Once we booked 3 rooms , from which 2 was on my spouses gold, and one on my platinum , and our room was by far the smallest and most bad we got.
Alway I asked for an plat upgrade and was told them full.
During checking out last time I asked for an upcoming stay in 2 days ( which I only was willing to book if them give an upgrade. Frontagent already said also in 2 days them full with suites.
I asked one of the checkin staff how many suites them have.
Answer was totaly them have 16, from which are 8 standard suites and 8 deluxesuites ( which them never give for upgrade ) and from the 8 standard suites 4 are not ready to use, because on theese floors them still working !
So them only have 4 for upgrades at all now.
However, I also went to the MERIDIEN where I have a 100% suite upgrade since them opened ( already stayed more than 10 times ).
Facit only if them rates less than 2000 THB and other choices are more than 4000 it is an choice for me again.
Want to know what about the ALOFT opening soon close by in Soi 11 ??

I don't understand all the complaints about the lack of suite upgrades. I'm about to tell you all about the fabulous suite I stayed in last weekend so it is a bit disingenuous of me, however I have stayed at a new Westin in Inida where I knew there were no suites ready. I didn't complain about the lack of recognition because I knew the number of suites were limited. Recently I stayed at the WGS and was not in a suite the first night. I booked really close to check-in so I understood. I stayed in the ROS after booking 2 hours beforehand. Guess what. No suites available for upgrade. As CheapElite/Kennected would say, if you must have a suite, book one. This property has plenty of Platinum recognition. Much more than I can get at the Four Points in Sydney. Y'all need to manage your expectations and realize that you are already getting recognition beyond what you would expect at a Four Points elsewhere.

Thumbs up Four Points Sukhumvit - Terrace Suite

Last weekend I decided to take advantage of the start of the Q1 promo and stay at the Four Points for two nights instead of my home, the WGS. As I had been staying at the WGS on C+P it worked out really well. Instead of paying 2800 Starpoints + $45 I was paying $62 and earning Starpoints for the spend plus 500 extra points per night. It was a great stay. There were some weak points with the physical plant which need to be addressed, but generally it was a good stay in an amazing room.

When the bellboy at the WGS took my bag he asked if I needed a taxi to the airport. I informed him that I was just heading over to the Four Points so no taxi was required. While I was checking out in the lounge, they received a call from the Concierge inquiring as to whether I'd be coming down right away to leave for the Four Points as they were calling the Four Points tuk-tuk to pick me up. Awesome and thoughtful service by both properties! Great cooperation! ^^

The tuk-tuk dropped me off at a back entrance to the Four Points where a bellboy escorted me with my suitcase to check-in. I had been watching my reservation on the SPG iPad app and saw that I was pre-upgraded to an Executive Suite. However, upon check-in, I was informed that the Executive Suite wasn't ready but they'd upgraded me to a Terrace Suite. They informed me that this wasn't the upgrade that would be normally available. Janet came down to say hello during the check-in process. While waiting, I was shown the local amenity which are cute silk stuffed elephants. The woman that was checking me in escorted me to the 2nd floor suite while explaining the access to the pool and gym.

Upon entering the suite there is a little bit of a hall with a powder room to the left. One needs to be careful with the door to this suite as it won't close all the way by itself. Whereas I'm used to walking out of a hotel room and the weight of the door closes it all the way, the weighting of this door seems to be off just a bit so that it closes the door but won't click it shut all the way. Just make sure to close the door when entering or leaving so nobody unexpectedly visits your room. I assume this is something that can and will be fixed.

First you enter into the living room. It is spacious and very well done. The flat screen TV includes a modern menu with lots of ways to access the channels you'd like to see. They have internet access through the TV (for a fee) and pay-per-view movies. At one point I looked for access to a folio and didn't find it. There was a DVD player under the TV and A/V sockets at the desk so you can hook up your laptop to watch movies or, as I did, stream your own music through the TV. It was also a nice place to relax and enjoy the Steak Pie (Aussie-style pies) that I ordered from room service at the suggestion of GeekElite.

I was really impressed by the card on the desk with the phone call rates. ^ Hotels typically don't make this information easy to access and I have seen and personally experienced the bitter discussions over this topic after the fact.

The huge sofa was a very comfortable for watching TV. There is an electricity outlet next to the sofa which made it easy to keep the laptop powered up.

There were also some delicious cupcakes waiting on the living room table.

The bedroom is equally spacious. The bed is comfortable, though it is not the Heavenly Bed I am so fond of.

From within the bedroom you can see through an open door into the bathroom. Leaving this open makes the room feel even more spacious, though it needs no help. There is also a small corridor leading to the bathroom entrance. On the left side of this corridor is the shelf for your suitcase and a closet. The closet contains a safe which is at the right height but is a bit awkward to access as the door is perpendicular to the closet itself.

The bathroom is also quite spacious. This suite has two sinks. I didn't find the sinks to splash anywhere and the basins were quite deep. There is a large tub in the bathroom with what appear to be jacuzzi jets. The shower and toilet are both closed off with opaque glass. The shower is spacious with a fixed and hand-held shower-head. The hand-held one sits in a holder that is adjustable so that it also serves the same purpose as the fixed shower-head. There is also a bench in the shower. Although the shower-head is pretty far from the door, I still had some issues with water leaking out into the main bathroom area. Perhaps some caulking that needs to be applied better.

Also, the toilets don't seem to flush with enough power to take everything down the drain. I ended up supplementing the flush with the hand-held toilet hose and everything was on its way. I'm told that this is a known issue and a solution is in the works.

Generally the bathrooms are well-done and exceed anything I've previously seen in a Four Points. Even the Four Points in Shenzen doesn't have bathrooms as nice as this. However, the towels seem to be on the small side and thus I felt there weren't enough of them. I'm sure a call to housekeeping would have gotten me more towels but I didn't bother.

But the true raison d'être of this room is the terrace. It is amazing. The day bed could use a tarp over the top, but otherwise it is a really great feature of this room. I noticed that at night someone moved all of the cushions to a covered area nearby so they don't get wet if it rains. It is a bit odd to look up and see all the guest rooms above you. But generally it is a really nice space to chill. I tried to relax outside at night and the mosquitoes started to feast, but otherwise it is a great space to have at your disposal.

I also spent some time in BeerVault. The food offerings during the Plat cocktail period were ok, but not great. I really like the BeerVault space but found the stools to be a bit shallow and wish that they had a rail at foot level to rest your feet on when you are sitting up on the stool.

When I checked out the tuk-tuk dropped me back home at the WGS.

Overall I had an enjoyable experience. I would be happy to live permanently in an apartment that was a duplicate of this suite with a kitchen added. I believe that the few shortcomings of the physical plant are addressable and will be taken care of after high season if not sooner. Some of them will be difficult to take care of while the hotel is so near to full occupancy. When I compare it to other Four Points I would say that it is definitely in the league of the Shenzen Four Points rather than the one in Sydney. I'd have no qualms staying in this property again and imagine I will do so as part of maximizing promos. Though I'm too comfortable at the WGS to make this my regular home in BKK, I think that the value for money at this property is excellent. That said, people need to remember that it is a high-end Four Points and not a St. Regis or Luxury Collection property. With appropriate expectations, I think everyone can be pretty satisfied.^

I was put in a corner room which is larger and configured differently than their standard rooms. And the next two nights I was moved 'home' to an XX24 suite. ^

Westin Gurgaon. I'd love to try the Westin Mumbai but the location doesn't work for any of my business in Mumbai.

The Difference would have to be more than THB 3000 for me to consider. And that does not even refelct the Platinum benefits I get at the SPG. In general I am not a big fan of 3 or 4 star properties and my recent stay at the 4P has confirmed that once more. Small rooms, bland furnishing, medicore service.... Either 5* or small boutique / B&B type accommodation.

Nice report yosithezet.

Wonderful pictures and great info for those who are lucky enough to get an upgrade at the 4pts BKK.

Problem is of ~ the 8 plat who have stayed at the 4pts BKK that I know, NONE have recieved any kind of a suite or Jr. suite upgrade including myself.

Yes we are aware that it is no guarantee for any kind of upgrade and is all based upon checkin availiabilty etc.
I'm not here to discuss the T&C of SPG.

But of the 8 Plat. I know of, 0 have gotten any kind of upgrade other than maybe a larger deluxe room.
On many occasions a Jr. suite or Exec. suite have been availaible online upon checkin, yet FD refuses to budge.

So David how did you work your magic and score this Exec Suite upgrade?

Just checked in and no real upgrade, just what looks to be a pretty standard room. Nice and as I am on my own, really don't need a suite. (Though the cupcakes would certainly make a nice snack later this evening!) Booked the 1900Baht rate. Had to ask about Plat benefits (other than being shown the selection card of 250 pts, a $5 food credit, or a local gift) which were explained to be comp breakfast in the restaurant, in-room internet and happy hour drinks in the Vault. Though having that terrace would have been nice, I will head up to the roof to spend an hour or two in the sun this afternoon, then head down for a few cold beers. Letter on the desk indicates the roof top bar is not open yet.

BTW for those unfamiliar with the way street numbers work in this part of the world, you will not find the FOUR POINTS fronting on Sukhumvit street as do the WESTIN and SHERATON. Rather, it is down a side street that is marked "15 Sukhumvit" about two blocks past the WESTIN. (I know those who've posted about this place are old timers in this part of the world, but it took this newbie almost a half hour of heading up and down Sukhumvit from the SkyTrain station to find the f*&king place! Fortunately, while it is hot there's not a trace of humidity in the air...)

So am I the 9th Plat you know that stayed here or you prefer to pretend not to know me? . I worked no magic, just saw it in my account. I did book directly with the property, however, as I saw only smoking rooms available under the rate I wanted on SPG.com

You didn't get a card explaining the benefits? I'll look for mine and post it.

I'm SPG Gold so the Plat benefits are irrelevant for me. I have an upcoming stay at SGS at a very good rate so 4P is only ~ 1,200 baht less per night. I wondered whether I'd be better off with that baht in my pocket given the 4P rooms look good in the pics. SGS is my favourite hotel in the world so it sounds like a no brainer.

P.S. I'm sure there are better hotels out there than SGS - I just haven't stayed in them.

Herein is one of the challenges with FT hype about new properties. You are considering a great four star over your favorite 5 star luxury hotel. If you really like the SGS then that is where you should be. By all means try the FP, but don't compare the experience to the one you know at the SGS. it won't be the same and isn't meant to be the same.
