Last weekend I decided to take advantage of the start of the Q1 promo and stay at the Four Points for two nights instead of my home, the WGS. As I had been staying at the WGS on C+P it worked out really well. Instead of paying 2800 Starpoints + $45 I was paying $62 and earning Starpoints for the spend plus 500 extra points per night. It was a great stay. There were some weak points with the physical plant which need to be addressed, but generally it was a good stay in an amazing room.
When the bellboy at the WGS took my bag he asked if I needed a taxi to the airport. I informed him that I was just heading over to the Four Points so no taxi was required. While I was checking out in the lounge, they received a call from the Concierge inquiring as to whether I'd be coming down right away to leave for the Four Points as they were calling the Four Points tuk-tuk to pick me up. Awesome and thoughtful service by both properties! Great cooperation! ^^
The tuk-tuk dropped me off at a back entrance to the Four Points where a bellboy escorted me with my suitcase to check-in. I had been watching my reservation on the SPG iPad app and saw that I was pre-upgraded to an Executive Suite. However, upon check-in, I was informed that the Executive Suite wasn't ready but they'd upgraded me to a Terrace Suite. They informed me that this wasn't the upgrade that would be normally available. Janet came down to say hello during the check-in process. While waiting, I was shown the local amenity which are cute silk stuffed elephants. The woman that was checking me in escorted me to the 2nd floor suite while explaining the access to the pool and gym.
Upon entering the suite there is a little bit of a hall with a powder room to the left. One needs to be careful with the door to this suite as it won't close all the way by itself. Whereas I'm used to walking out of a hotel room and the weight of the door closes it all the way, the weighting of this door seems to be off just a bit so that it closes the door but won't click it shut all the way. Just make sure to close the door when entering or leaving so nobody unexpectedly visits your room. I assume this is something that can and will be fixed.

First you enter into the living room. It is spacious and very well done. The flat screen TV includes a modern menu with lots of ways to access the channels you'd like to see. They have internet access through the TV (for a fee) and pay-per-view movies. At one point I looked for access to a folio and didn't find it. There was a DVD player under the TV and A/V sockets at the desk so you can hook up your laptop to watch movies or, as I did, stream your own music through the TV. It was also a nice place to relax and enjoy the Steak Pie (Aussie-style pies) that I ordered from room service at the suggestion of
GeekElite.
I was really impressed by the card on the desk with the phone call rates. ^ Hotels typically don't make this information easy to access and I have seen and personally experienced the bitter discussions over this topic after the fact.
The huge sofa was a very comfortable for watching TV. There is an electricity outlet next to the sofa which made it easy to keep the laptop powered up.
There were also some delicious cupcakes waiting on the living room table.
The bedroom is equally spacious. The bed is comfortable, though it is not the Heavenly Bed I am so fond of.
From within the bedroom you can see through an open door into the bathroom. Leaving this open makes the room feel even more spacious, though it needs no help. There is also a small corridor leading to the bathroom entrance. On the left side of this corridor is the shelf for your suitcase and a closet. The closet contains a safe which is at the right height but is a bit awkward to access as the door is perpendicular to the closet itself.

The bathroom is also quite spacious. This suite has two sinks. I didn't find the sinks to splash anywhere and the basins were quite deep. There is a large tub in the bathroom with what appear to be jacuzzi jets. The shower and toilet are both closed off with opaque glass. The shower is spacious with a fixed and hand-held shower-head. The hand-held one sits in a holder that is adjustable so that it also serves the same purpose as the fixed shower-head. There is also a bench in the shower. Although the shower-head is pretty far from the door, I still had some issues with water leaking out into the main bathroom area. Perhaps some caulking that needs to be applied better.
Also, the toilets don't seem to flush with enough power to take everything down the drain. I ended up supplementing the flush with the hand-held toilet hose and everything was on its way. I'm told that this is a known issue and a solution is in the works.
Generally the bathrooms are well-done and exceed anything I've previously seen in a Four Points. Even the Four Points in Shenzen doesn't have bathrooms as nice as this. However, the towels seem to be on the small side and thus I felt there weren't enough of them. I'm sure a call to housekeeping would have gotten me more towels but I didn't bother.
But the true
raison d'être of this room is the terrace. It is amazing. The day bed could use a tarp over the top, but otherwise it is a really great feature of this room. I noticed that at night someone moved all of the cushions to a covered area nearby so they don't get wet if it rains. It is a bit odd to look up and see all the guest rooms above you. But generally it is a really nice space to chill. I tried to relax outside at night and the mosquitoes started to feast, but otherwise it is a great space to have at your disposal.
I also spent some time in
BeerVault. The food offerings during the Plat cocktail period were ok, but not great. I really like the BeerVault space but found the stools to be a bit shallow and wish that they had a rail at foot level to rest your feet on when you are sitting up on the stool.
When I checked out the tuk-tuk dropped me back home at the WGS.
Overall I had an enjoyable experience. I would be happy to live permanently in an apartment that was a duplicate of this suite with a kitchen added. I believe that the few shortcomings of the physical plant are addressable and will be taken care of after high season if not sooner. Some of them will be difficult to take care of while the hotel is so near to full occupancy. When I compare it to other Four Points I would say that it is definitely in the league of the Shenzen Four Points rather than the one in Sydney. I'd have no qualms staying in this property again and imagine I will do so as part of maximizing promos. Though I'm too comfortable at the WGS to make this my regular home in BKK, I think that the value for money at this property is excellent. That said, people need to remember that it is a high-end Four Points and not a St. Regis or Luxury Collection property. With appropriate expectations, I think everyone can be pretty satisfied.^
