If you tried a regular OM or Staples Visa card, I believe the limit at the CSC is $99.

EW cards will work for the full amount at both the cashier and CSC.

Do you know if any of the MC GC work to load One account? They are on sale this week at staples. the variable load MC worked for a MO for me last week

Works, at a maximum $99 per swipe for me at least

cool. Have you ever tried multiple swipes with the same card? Wonder if that works if you have a $200 card for example

It should work, but it's mostly trial and error. Try not to push it too much as they're sensitive and you don't want to risk the account getting locked

From the Website
The card you purchased at the store will not work until it is activated. You can activate the card by scanning the QR code on the packaging or by visiting onepay.com/storedebit

If you follow the link, you will see that activation requires supplying an ID, probably SSN. Your friend has been ID'ed by several methods, including SSN, which is now on the naughty list.
So you can't activate the card to use it, so it appears that the answer would be no. However, never hurts to give it a try, I guess.

If I link my checking account to the ONE card, I can move money out to that checking account?

Yes, you can activate the card. However you can only do it under a different telephone number than the account you had shut down. This will result in you having a new account. They will still recognize your SSN though, and will give you a limited account with no checking, no bill pay, etc. at that point the card you bought in store is just a gift card, and will be treated as such.

how do I know this? I had a retail card I had purchased at the time they shut my account down. I called customer support to ask how to get my money back for the retail card since I could not activate it. That was the advice they gave me. Note, the “new” limited account got shut down soon after as well. Not a sustainable strategy

Any tricks to not getting One Account shutdown?

there was a DP here from a guy who had his account supposedly quite long. Said the only thing he was doing different from the rest of us was never transfer money out, never transfer to a bank and never use ATM. He only ever paid bills from One, or used the card for purchases. I’d be interested If anyone did the same but got shuttered anyway.

i tried very hard to keep my usage minimal and within reasonable frequency. Had my account about 10 months before shutter

I have had a One account ever since WM started it.
I have a $500 DD each month, which goes into the savings account (currently paying about 3.3%). I have used it regularly at WM to take advantage of the 3% CB, but they now limit that to $150 spend a month, then you get 0.1% CB after that (real devaluation), so this requires me to keep a tab on spend at WM.

I do not pay bills with this account, use an ATM nor do I transfer money out of the account. I do load with GCs (either Staples or OM) but only to maintain spend.

I could do BP, but why?? The savings account is almost as good as any on-line account such as Discover. I have plenty of crappy checking accounts that can be used for BP which pay nothing in interest. You can also pull money from WM without using an ATM (I think limit is $500/day).

I suspect that anyone who starts to increase their activity of loading and withdrawing are the ones who get shuttered. `Coastal bank has been swatted by the Feds for poor ML surveillance.

One additional point. They do daily interest accrual on your savings account, rather than monthly or weekly. That does increase your APR by a small amount.

I just received the One card in the mail yesterday.
I have 1500 points and also the offer to get 10% (up to $20) in cash back on first purchase at Walmart.
If I end up with 3500 in points, I can take the One card to Walmart and get $35 in cash out?

When loading the One card at Walmart, do the cashiers know how to do it?
Just mention One card?

The points can be deposited as cash in your account using the app (then you can cash it out like any money in your debit). To load (or get money other than ATM), you simply go to WM Customer Service (or Money Center if they have that) and tell them you want to add/load money to your OnePay, they know the rest (if they don't just mention action code 70).
If you read the thread there's a lot of info that can be useful to start on this (hide your GCs, start small, etc.).
