Signing up to buy $1000 visa/mc gift cards
You can buy the $1000 cards on Simon's volume site. Their regular site only sells $500 cards.
If you're new, or haven't bought anything in a year, you need to register at https://www.simon.com/volume/register-consumer
As part of the registration process, you will have to go to a brick and mortar mall and buy at least $3000 in cards in person, as well as filling out some paperwork while there. After that, you can do everything online.
As of Nov 2020, Simon Mall Gift cards will only work for $99/swipe for money services at Walmart and many grocery chains.
$1000 gift cards are available indefinitely.

I signed up earlier this year, and that was the process I had to go thru. Sign up on-line, wait to get an email saying go to a B&M outlet and buy at least $3000 in cards. No need to show I'm a business, though I think you have to use the same CC you signed up with. IIRC, I used a personal card and never claimed to be a business. Simon is very very MS friendly, and actually encourages it. After the 1 visit, you can do everything on-line after that.
I have never had any card minimums or ID checks but that may be because I am a well known quantity at this mall's office (which is a bit disconcerting, to say the least .

Yeah I stopped doing about $5k-$8k/month over the summer and liquidating via a grocery store here in San Diego. I'm reluctant to jump back in with a big buy at Simon.com cuz I don't want to be holding that bag if 1/1 brings about some new policy change at BHN, WU or my grocer. But, I am trying for the companion pass for the wife now that we're thrice vaccinated. When did Simon start doing in person sales again?

Varies. My Simon mall still has not resumed selling in person.

The chain I found was $2 per $500 MO, got 1 just to see if I could but not worth it at that price, at least to me. I Googled grocerys in So Cal and went chain to chain and deleted those that it was already posted dont work any longer

C1
Can anyone confirm if C1 doesn't give problems with awarding points for SMVGC purchases?

In 2018 and 2019 I was going to Wal-Marts, the one on Shawline was tough because of this one elderly Asian woman at the Money Center. She wasn't having any of it even when Metabank still worked there. Eventually, as I'm sure you know, that died out. I then went exclusively to the Neighborhood Markets in the area by the end of 2019, and sometime into the pandemic they shut that down too. I then found that you could still use them at Albertsons Western Union locations. I was using those throughout the pandemic and until the spring/summer of this year. I hadn't been back to one until the day before Christmas. I'm telling you all this now because I got the "Not Authorized" message at Albertsons on Christmas Eve. Since I don't need to float ~$8k a month anymore (found a job earlier this year finally) I'm contemplating eating the fees burning through ~$15k $99 at a time just for the companion pass/sign-up bonuses.

That's better than $0.89/$99 at Wal-Mart. Is it a Western Union location?
