This is the master thread for all VGC and MCGC sold at Staples.
The previous discussion can be found here.

The VGCs sold at Staples are issued by Metabank and serviced by Blackhawk Network.
The activation code for online purchase comes with the card. Cards purchased at store are activated at check-out.
To activate cards over the phone (without activation codes), call (877) 426-2551 to talk to a rep.
To activate cards over the web, www.giftcardkey.com.
The default PIN number is the last four digits of the card number but can be changed online.

As of 5/12/2014, all known portals are dead.

Earn 5x points with Chase Ink, or Simply Cash for 5% cash back
Buy Visa gift cards (Metabank) at Staples ($200 for $7.95) or the website ($300 for $8.95).

2k Limit per transaction / 10k per day for online. In-store is usually 2k but YMMV
Often times, there are promotions with no or reduced activation fees

Does this mean they shouldn't be used to MS for SUB for Chase cards? What about Amex? Or other banks (Citi/Capital One/etc)? I know Amex has tried to limit MS through VGC as much as possible.

Or am I reading too much into this?

I have had no issue with amex or chase for MS. Able to max out 3 ink card annual bonuses and every amex offer so far for a few years. I always do MSR (Minimum spend requirement) organically, so I wouldn't know.

I woudln't buy any VGC to meet minimum spend for Amex cards. Even if they give you the signup bonus initially they may claw it back later if they discover that you bought gift cards. For other credit card issuers it is probably okay.

Time for me to visit my local Staples and stash a few cards in various hidey-holes, as anti-piggie preemptive countermeasure.

Yes, if you can get rid of those $200 GCs quickly. It took me a good 2-3 months to get rid of those 40 GCs.

My Amex card has an offer for $25 cash back on $100 at Staples(expires tomorrow). I wonder if I buy a $200 Visa gift card tomorrow it will count for that. I know people are saying it probably won't count towards minimum spending but what about offers?

It would be faster to look at all of yours to see if you have it.

If you have not added to your card, chances are, the offer has been long gone.

My Blue Cash Preferred got the offer. It's probably been there for a while, but I just added it to the card yesterday.

Im out of town, went to 1 store they said only the 1st card will be fee free, didnt think quick enough and took the 1 and left

In the past all cards came up w/o a fee, has anyone been able to purchase more then 1 w/o getting charged the fee. Feel free to PM me if you dont want to post in public. Could be they finally hard coded things and with a long line didnt want to experiment and then change my mind and tell her I will take only 1 card after she rang up the 2nd if the fee was there.

thx
