Hmm.
My OneVIP serve account was blocked from loading in early 2016, and closed by AMEX in May 2017.

"we cannot approve you for a serve account right now." Damn. Closed almost 6 mos, and unable to open a new one.

Suggestions, or just abandon serve and buy MOs?

Yes - I've been a little out of the loop - heart surgery. I'm better now, thanks!

Have you been opening and closing BB and Serve accounts? If so, how often?

I am opening and closing the bluebird every two months but not serve.

I can't find a VGC that loads to serve online.

Just tried opening another BB account (had tried opening a Serve Green account previously) and was unable to do so (got the same message others are getting). So it looks like for the time being, I will have to keep my current ServeOne VIP account and BB account open and hope they don't get shut down any time soon.

So maybe a year or two ago (shortly after Redbird died), I opened OneVIP. I had just this single account, and loaded only to this one account. Worked fine for a bit, but got shut down in their first wave of shut downs.

I've read the last few pages, and it seems like the Serve strategy has changed a bit. Is it true that A) I should have multiple cards open to spread the loading (i.e. OneVIP, BB, etc.) and then B) I should close them after a month or two and open new accounts?

Thanks in advance! I've just started MOs and it's a bit of a hassle since I don't have a bank that takes them via app and I don't like waiting for mail deposits.

The first issue is whether you can get new Serve or BB cards in light of your prior shutdown. You probably won't be able to do so under your SSN, but may be able to do so if you have a SO or someone else who can apply for the cards.

Regardless of whether you decide to open and close them every couple of months, IMO you should get multiple cards to get the most out of them for however long you can keep them open. In my experience, once you get shutdown, you're shutdown on all Serve/BB cards in your name under your SSN. So why not get the most out of multiple cards rather than just one, before you get shutdown.

I think the jury is still out on whether opening and closing cards every few months staves off shutdown. I have been doing it this year, and haven't been shut down yet, but there hasn't been a big wave of shutdowns since January of 2017 to my knowledge. The fact that I haven't been able to open any new accounts lately, but can still load on the two cards I still have, suggests that maybe AmEx won't let some people open new accounts if they have opened and closed several over the last few months under the same name and SSN. That's why I'm now keeping the two I have open unless and until I know I can get approved for a new card. I don't want to close them voluntarily and then not be able to open any new accounts.

My OneVIP just got axed this morning. I wonder if there is a new surge of shut down?

Same thing here. Cleaning house before getting rid of their prepaid business altogether..?

I smell another wave of shut down incoming. I got axed just now as well.

Also got the axe email today, haven't been able to open any new cards for weeks now though anyway.

Very surprised that I thought Amex wouldn't care about MSer as the biz has been sold.

DP: I have a Softcard Serv that I had been successfully loading with a Chase Visa, coded for Chase as "recreation." It no longer works, Chase tells me it is coding as a cash advance and getting (thankfully) rejected.

Has anyone (who avoided shutdown) successfully re-opened a Serve card in the past week? Seems like people have reported being unable to open new Serves even though they were not actually shutdown.

I'm trying to figure out if I should proactively close mine or just let 'em ride. Somehow I dodged the shutdown even though I've been loading the max on 2 cards each month and closing them down. I had 2 open/active accounts last week when the shutdowns happened yet came out alive.

I am in the same boat you are. I have an open Bluebird and an open ServeOne account that both have escaped being closed so far. But for the past 3-4 weeks I have not been able to open up any more Serve/BB accounts. Until I can open a new account, I'm going to just going to let them ride. I'm afraid that if I close down the 2 accounts I have, I won't be able to open any new ones (which would be worse than just letting them ride and using them in the meantime). I'm hoping that there won't be anymore shutdowns before AmEx transfers the cards to the new issuer and then we'll see how the new issuer handles existing accounts and applications for new ones.
