So does that mean they would likely be contacting Amex Serve to note the issue so that Serve can deduct the funds from my account and send them back to the store? I figured my Serve balance would eventually drop to rebalance things, but not sure. I'm hoping I don't have to (i) contact Serve about this or (ii) go back to the store.
I'm kind of in a holding pattern at the moment. I still have the VGC here with the $500 balance, and I have the Serve card. But I'm hesitant to unload Serve or close the Serve account if the balance is going to be deducted. |

If it was ran as a cash transaction, paper records would show that you paid cash. The responsibility for the missing cash would fall on the clerk. I'm not saying that's what happened, but it's one possibility. Do you know the name of the clerk? You could call the store to see if they were short 500 on the day you made the attempt. This way if something more comes of it, it will at least look like you tried to make it right.

Ended up calling the store and spoke with manager. She said its possible that the deduction from the debit card could be delayed due to the system time out issue. I told her that, if it came up unbalanced for whatever reason, to just give me a call and I'd just swing by and balance it out with cash. She was very appreciative and said she would reach out if needed.
I feel better having called to discuss. This way, they will hopefully contact me without the need to get Serve involved. Plus, honesty is the best policy anyway. |

to test for possible shutdown, try doing online load and if your acct isn't blocked, it is in good standing.

I know this trick but don't know what I should expect really. I clicked add fund and the website asked me if you want to enroll DD or link a debit card. Everything looks fine to me.
