Did 5x200 payments to my mortgage company yesterday (6/5) and got an email today with 'your account with this biller at Evolve Money has been closed due to the volume processed'.

I guessing you hadn't read the thread yesterday?

yes, they fixed it within a few days of the blog posting.

Whether or not each of us did 1 payment, 5 payments, or 500 payments, they were eventually going to figure out THEY WERENT MAKING MONEY. Those that are making tons of payments are likely not the ones paying overnight fees, etc. Clearly their solution should be to come up with a way to make money off of those of us who want that capability. But instead they choose to continue losing money from those of us, just in smaller numbers....or shut down those accounts they knew they weren't going to make money off of.

And you are forgetting the people with multiple accounts, each liquidating $30K of $200 Staples gift cards a month. I am just glad they are not making it more restrictive. I can live with 4 payments a month to billing account. But I am not sitting on tens of thousands of $$ worth of $200 gift cards like a couple people I know. Might take a whole lot longer now to liquidate them.

It is pretty pathetic if they have locked some payees without notifying people in advance.

Wasn't the word out about this yesterday?

I got this email this morning

"Good morning,

This email is to inform you that your account with this biller at Evolve Money has been suspended due to the volume processed, which is limited to 4 payments per month, per biller. We are unable to allow future payments to this account until July 1, 2014. Please note – attempts to pay this biller prior to this date will result in an authorization hold of funds with your card issuer. We regret any inconvenience this causes, but hope that you will continue to pay other billers that are available to you through Evolve Money.

Thank you,

Evolve Support

This is not too bad but i dont think any of us knew about the 4 payment limit per biller per month

I think Evolve did this to limit abusers who are liquidating many $200 GCs. And if you are just doing a casual MS, you would be fine with the new rule.

Well, it was not like anyone was giving them any $$ to do this service. They are eating those swipe fees, and they identified the behavior costing them the most $$ and implemented a process to limit costs.

I guess the people who were hammering this loophole might have to start paying those bills with (oh, the horror!) ACH transactions that don't give them rebates.

I don't mind them making the changes, but if they are actually locking out payees without giving some notice then that is a shady practice.

The easiest solution would be for them to just charge a $1 fee per swipe or whatever.

I don't know how it works but is swipe fee per transaction and/or a percentage of the transactions? For example, it's always $1+2%.

The Fed caps the debit swipe fee at $.21 a swipe. CC are a percentage based upon agreements and volumes.
