Dear Evolve Money Customer, Thank you for being a loyal Evolve Money customer and for taking advantage of free payments with your Discover card. Our goal is to provide you the best service and flexible payment options. We are making a few changes to the types of bills that can be paid with your Discover card. Beginning December 18, 2014, you will no longer be able to use Discover credit cards to pay mortgages, car payments, 529 savings accounts, retail store cards, and student loans. However, you can continue to pay these bills for free using Discover, VISA and MasterCard debit cards, as well as cash packs. You will still be able to pay ALL other bills that are not from lenders, including utilities, cable, phone, internet, insurance and more for free with your Discover credit card. But also: We have good news for those who prefer to pay with cash. Coming in January 2015, Evolve Money will be added to the Vanilla Reload Network, which means you will be able to use the popular Vanilla Reload cards to pay your bills. This adds more than 65,000 locations across the country to purchase cash packs, including 7-11, Walgreens, Walmart, and CVS. |

So much for Discover...
And what's the point of going through the hassle of add VR cards if they're just going away in April. Oh well...guess it's their business. |
Way to stay ahead of the game Evolve. You just added the ability to "use the popular Vanilla reload card" in time for it to be phased out.

Discover was already pointless. How could this have possibly been abused so much that they are removing it already?

Hmm...
It appears that they have a new policy every month or less. No too reliable. |

:) Glad I got what I could out of it. I KNEW it wouldnt last. At least I can still use it to pay two other monthly bills that cant otherwise be paid with CC. |

Damn.. I just opened a 529 plan for this, hoping that I can use visa/mastercard in 2015. How stupid is this... guess evolve won't last long...

I have the same question...how on earth could this possibly have been used enough to be banished already? Gotta admit, I did make enough payments to lenders to earn $20 back from Discover... which I promptly spent on one cheap dinner.
Can anyone explain WHY it's so taboo to pay a lender with a credit card? That is part of my spend... I'm buying property... I'm spending money to buy property... why should I (who pays credit cards in full every month) not be allowed to earn miles from property-spending? Yes, I understand secured vs unsecured debt, but that's a problem with bankruptcy laws, not spending. |
