Are there any gift cards that would let you combine balances on to get around this? i.e. say you buy two $500 gift cards can you transfer the balance of one to the other so you can make a payment of more than $500?

I suggest making as many payments as you can before Sept 1!

If there was a way to do this it would have been posted by now.

FYI - They already cut it back to four payments in July for a single payee, so your account will freeze after the fourth one.

You don't need evolve money to use gobank pay. There is no dollar limit with gobank. I used to pay $2800 for my primary mortgage from gobank until I found evolve money. Guess I need to go back to gobank and go to walmart more often!!!!

Does anyone know if Go Bank can be funded with VGC from Best Buy or Staples?

concordian Aug 27, 2014 12:48 pm

Yes from Staples but I haven't tried Best Buy cards

Yep I sure do.

I guess they never got those big advertising contracts like Mint.com gets

Both are Metabank, so yes.

Evolve clearly does not have a sustainable business model, and their target customer probably does not need to make more than one payment/month to pay their electric, water, gas, etc. I wish they would just charge a nominal fee ($1-$2) for each payment and every biller, and get rid of this silly new restriction -- hopefully that would be enough to sustain them.

I agree, I am willing to pay a $1 or $2 every $500 transaction regardless of how many billers I am trying to pay since I just do $500 to either the same biller or a combination of biller with a total bill of $500 so I and just put away the card after.

My working assumption is if we actually pay enough to cover the costs of Evolve then this will not be of interest. $1 or $2 per $500 ain't going to fix it. Their "plan" seemed to involve pulling in ad revenue a la Mint. Guess the plan did not go to plan

thanks good news.

GB sites says - "You’ll now need a GoBank starter kit to open a GoBank account, which is only available at a few stores in the moment."

7-11? Walgreens? GB made it hard to open acct?

Evolve was spending money on promotions to attract new customer by giving $5 or $10 credit to open account. If that was investment, it is not likely to have any significant returns.

I am inclined to believe that Evolve may have been forced to reduce to one payment per account per month rather than their own choice. Whether it was regulators as a result of lobbying from credit cards or otherwise, it is going to be a speculation.

If their own decision due to findings that bill payment is not generating revenue compared to Chargesmart, we are likely to see new schemes expanding into credit card payment with fees similar but lower than competitors.

Evolve reads and replies to this forum. Let us wait and see what their response is.
