Banned by Metabank for non-AAA?

I missed this thread the first time it went through, so this is the first I've heard of Metabank banning people. Has this ever been a problem with non-AAA GCs?

Do most of you set up multiple accts for online registration of cards to alleviate Metabank concerns over too many GCs or do you just avoid online registration altogether?

I purchased over $15k back in December at the end of the promotion so I'm not sure if I was banned.
I just visited today and purchased $5k using AGC without any fees. The fees are being waived for graduation during May and June. Great way to reduce fees on all these AGCs!!

Is this by region only? I checked So Cal AAA and no amex gc offers.

It could be. My AAA is located just outside of a university.

Please post where this works (if someone had the ad that would be helpful as well)...AAA Chicago apparently has no such fee waiver (or at least it has not advised the offices of it).

Interested on any reports in DC area (Midatlantic AAA). Thanks.

Any news on Bay Area esp East Bay?

Datapoint for AAA MidAtlantic (Tyson Corner, VA office):

They are participating in the promo, through 6/30/14.
Cards are Visa GCs issued by Metabank.
Tried to buy 6 cards, but cashier said limit was 4. Seemed like limit was per visit/day.
Tried to purchase w/ AX CC, but cashier said Visa or MC only.

So: successfully purchased 4X $500 in one visit.

Thanks for the info. I guess I need to go see if I'm still banned.

Tried my local AAA in SoCal. They looked at me like I was from another planet when I asked about gift cards. Told me to go to the grocery store

My local office said the last fee free promotion was in December. Told her I heard it had reappeared for graduation. She said she hadn't heard of any promotion lately but that the fee had decreased on the VGCs. Bottom line, no love for me.

The promotion appears to be in the mid-atlantic region only. Visit http://midatlantic.aaa.com/Banking/VisaGiftCard and enter a mid-atlantic zip code (like 21218).

The text says:

Visa Gift Card FEE FREE Promotion

Now through June 30th, 2014, visit your local AAA Store to take advantage of the Visa Gift Card fee free promotion for AAA Members.

The AAA gift card must be purchased at a AAA Retail office.
Maybe it's time to visit the east coast :)

Which issue is the ad in? I just got the May/June 2014 issue and couldn't find the ad.

There is a full-page ad in the AAA magazine, referencing graduation time. This is in line with what was said earlier in this thread - that the no-fee cards are offered twice per year around graduation and Christmas.

As with the previous offer, it is region-specific, so your best bet is to swing by and see if they are offering fee-free cards. Even calling shouldn't be an issue - this is not a mistake of some kind.

Has anyone tried this with Citi cards? Is it a cash advance?
