Here is my update after MetaBank compliance called back. They said the large number of cards I purchased coupled with the all at once withdrawals for cash on the first few cards (which were really deposits to bluebird) were not consistent activities with what the bank considers the purpose of the cards, the bank has the discretion to close accounts, and my accounts have been closed. They will send a check within 30 days, but possibly as soon as Friday.
That's fine because I'm getting a check and thus keeping the points, and I have enough assets to float the $20,000 in the meantime. But obviously AAA cards will not be a viable strategy going forward, which is a shame because their fees are lower than VRs. |
I was able to grab $2,000 in cards no problem today in Orlando. Hadn't seen this thread until afterwards, but glad to see others have been getting in, even if MetaBank is spoiling the fun for some. I wrote up a post with some pics of the cards and receipt so you know what to look for if you go hunting!

Oops, at least two wonderful folks in this thread called them out of the blue to kinda argue about things. If Metabank tied up somebody's moolah like they did to another poster here, then initiating a conversation does indeed seem necessary.

For those of us in a location that sells Visa GCs for up to $500 + $4.95 fee, has anyone been able to pay via split tender? I'm thinking of trying using a $500 Amex GC and cash/other. Has anyone tried this? In AAA Carolinas area.
|
Tried to buy some for the first time in almost three weeks and was denied as soon as they swiped my card. She said it was per membership so I couldn't have another person on my membership buy any. She also said that limit was $10k.
She said they do this promotion twice per year and the other one is usually around graduation/father's day time. |
I got "the boot" from AAA about 3 wks in after buying about 5k in cards over 3 transactions.
Their stated reason is that they didn't like that I want to register the card in the recipient's name. Also, they didn't like that I was wanting to buy gift cards with gift cards. |

so any AAA GC I buy has a PIN I can call in for, and I can load my BB with any of the cards I buy at AAA.

You do not seem to have a good grasp of the fundamentals here and I would strongly suggest reading a few threads here before you get your funds tied up. Some AAA offices are selling Amex GC, which do NOT have PINs. This information is contained in this very thread. You may also consider reading the Visa GC thread and BB threads as they will provide a good explanation and alert you to many of the issues encountered. To be prepared, once must have knowledge. There really is no shortcut to the amount of time it takes to read the threads. Good Luck!

wasted my time. clerks oblivious to the deal, and of course said there's a 4.95 load fee, and to use debit or cash as credit would show up as cash advance. this of course had me out the door faster than a jackrabbit until i read that everyone else here has not had CA hits with chase 'n barclay arrival. thanks for the info guys. time to re-attempt tomorrow

guys, my last few AAA Visa GC's are not loading to my BB. I tried two different Wally, both kiosk and cashier. It keeps saying "alternate tender required". I used my BOA debit card right after to load BB and it went through. I loaded 10 giftcards already last month without any problems but have gotten the "ban" since attempting to purchase more. I have a feeling my cards have been frozen. When i login to the myprepaidbalance.com website though, it shows the full balance of each card. i was thinking of trying to load it on AP. Apart from that, it seems like i need to call Metabank. Can anyone offer any suggestions? How do i know if my cards have been frozen?
