This is the thread for posts through 2016. The new thread for 2017 is http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1826119-billpay-walmart-2017-a.html
Bill Pay cannot be done at a regular register.
It must be done at Customer Service/Returns.
Or at the Money Center in stores that have it.
BUSINESS DAY transaction completion time is 18:59:59 EST
--------------------------------------------------------------
WM offers two BP services: CheckFreePAY and MoneyGram. The cashier can initiate CheckFreePAY by selecting Money Services followed by Bill Pay on the register for a fee of $1-1.88. Moneygram is $4.99.
Once your CFP account is set up, you can add cc. When you want to BP give them your phone# to look up your account under Money Services. They often get confused and think you want MG, but just say it is under Money Services.
ONLY 4 successful debit card swipes can pay for a transaction.
ONLY 5 payments per 16 digit account number per rolling 30 days.
--------------------------------------------
:-:VISA and MC
If your particular card isn't on the list below, try "VISA" or "MASTERCARD."
"VISA" and "MASTERCARD" payee can no longer be found by search at some stores. If the employee can no longer find "VISA" or "MASTERCARD" by searching in CheckFreePAY, then you cannot pay either, end of story.
Following do not work:

I had an typical fail at Walmart this evening when paying a $1700 US (Carlson) bill with just a single debut card (buxx). It happens occasionally for me.
So I decided to give Kmart a try as others recommended. Another thread mentions Kmart can't split payments but I was just looking for one card payment anyway. They were equally uninformed as Walmart employees. But I got it through. The only difference with Kmart is they insisted I provide a biller zip code. I never recall being asked that at Walmart. We'll see how it goes. I'll report back Friday

Just reporting back on the K-Mart experience from Tuesday. It posted no problem today. To recap, that was with a SINGLE card. I actually only paid $930 so I'm not sure on their upper limit. It costed $1.50. I had to provide a zip code, so I gave the billing zip code of US Bank on my statement.

Today, I did my first WM BP after "teaching" the somewhat grumpy but eventually willing MC employee how to split the tender into 4 $500 payments. She kept trying to enter the $500 first but it obviously wouldn't work. Eventually got it to work.
One interesting nugget of information about a memo that she implied was sent by Check-free. She said that Check-free was trying to figure out a way to stop the split-tender payments for the BP so that one could no longer use multiple debit cards to pay the bill. Somewhat concerning to me but maybe this is already known. Not trying to sow panic or anything just reporting what I was told.
She did it for me anyway without trying to stop me but then told me about the memo.

Billpay at Walmart
So someone who didn't know how to do BP had inside information about it?

Well she knew how to do the BP, but was trying to do the split-payment the old way I guess. I mean, I don't think she was making it up about the memo, she wasn't that bright. Just reporting what I encountered.

Yes, please let's have a separate Kmart billpay thread
This is my post about the payment limit I found at Kmart.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/22800325-post1605.html
Since that post I tried split payments but no one at Kmart could figure out how to do it.

CF doesn't control WM's POS and has no reason to care about the swipe count. But if there is any truth to this, it should be WM itself. No matter how you divide the $1/$1.50/$1.88 between CF and WM, 4 debits will wipe out any profit to WM from that BP transaction (unless there was some kind of revenue sharing on the volume).
