A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html
CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.
New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.
Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.
Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

I dont see why CVS would allow you to buy/load the initial $500 on a Serve, but not allow any further loading even if its (arbitrarily) limited to $1k/day.

No $2.5k limit here. Bought $5k of PP cash yesterday. My regular store had been out for a week, but yesterday had just 10 cards hanging there. So they are out again.

Went To CVS today, have one of my favorite cashier ring up a temp Serve card, she says: it request Cash/Debit only. have manager canceled the order, and ring up OV paid with CC, I guess temp Serve card is hardcoded now.

CVS told me it's an issue from their side, and my CC did not stop any transactions. The CC fraud dept. could see the attempted $1009.90 charge but that did not get processed after all.
Will be trying again tonight.

Similar case with me last night when buying OVs. The first $500 went thru alright; "another form of payment required" msg popped up for the next $1k. I thought it may be due to fraud protection from the CC so I cleared that up and had them on the phone while I ran the transaction again, but no go!

My daughter went in today, to the same CVS and got a server card. Had to pay the fee now, guess that's over as others have said. She was however allowed to use her CC to pay and load it. I got two $500 VGC. I how ever could not get them to work at Walmart. This was a new Walmart that had just opened today. Was kinda weird, real small & all they sold was groceries. The CSR told me gift cards will not load. I told her I do it all the time. She tried 3 times still would not. She then told me, well were new & are computers are updated & the older walmarts have older computers. lol
