I'd like to call out Daraius at MillionMileSecrets for this post on his blog:
http://millionmilesecrets.com/2013/0...al-debit-card/ While he did write: "But you’ve got to be careful with PayPal and DO NOT try this if you can’t afford to be without the money you load in your PayPal account should PayPal decide to suspend your account!" I would like travel bloggers to actively show that they are participating in a scheme like this with something like screen shots. Loading your account one time with $1k in gift cards to me does not mean you've full researched this scheme. At least someone like frequent miler will post details of his active participation... trials and errors.. and tend to keep readers updated on if a deal is dead or if people are getting shut down. Since a travel blogger like Daraius makes a direct income off his readers (not just ads that are being loaded on his page) via credit card sign ups and then telling people who to rack up miles. I think that I'd like to see that he is actively working a deal that is such a high risk. I've talked to a large number of people who in the past have had their accounts frozen along with their funds. So if he is suggesting to readers that you are less likely to have this happen if you are not depositing the funds directly into your bank and spending the money via the debit card... I'd like to see evidence to back this up. I think if you are going to suggest such a high risk deal to readers that he should be like frequent miler and actually be testing this stuff out and reporting it to his readers, because if not.. does he really care if his readers get their funds frozen? Would you not call this lazy blogging or reporting? Responses are welcome :) That being said - to each their own (I'm not a PP fan either). |

How old is "older"? I've had my paypal business debit since 2006 and am at 1%.

I have had success using the paypal business debit, nothing from paypal yet. I use it for a bunch of regular spend, then buy money orders or get cash back at the register.
Whenever I buy a reload with a giftcard/prepaid card I put 500 on the card and then pay the 3.95 with my paypal then get cash back. |
Agreed. Daraius only does "test" transactions on these cards but writes as if has actually tested the limits. I don't think he uses any of these methods to their limit (or anywhere close)- or even uses many ever again.
But why would he even need to? He pimps his referrals relentlessly and surely makes significantly more that way than he ever could generating spend. He simply churns CCs and could never do what FrequentMiler is planning with the March Million Madness challenge. The worst thing is he trolls FT for ideas and passes.them off as his own.

Or claim that "a reader" tipped/asked about it.
I'm just surprised he would write about paypal. From what I've seen.. if you get your Amazon account frozen.. after a bit of time you get your funds back.. but I've heard some major horror stories about Paypal. The MillionMileSecrets blog has not been around for very long. I'm just curious if a few people got their accounts frozen by Paypal and did not see a return on their large deposits for a very long time what kinds of things they would post about this blogger. We all know that the Frugal Travel Guy had some very rough times after the Suntrust deal, but he has been around so long that most people were able to forgive and forget due to him being around so long an such an integral part of the community. Seems to me this might be a different story for Daraius. |
1/22/13 - I was able to buy a Paypal Mycashcard with AMEX Hilton from 1 out of 2 stores. Paypal is risky, so I will not overdo it. You can have one personal and one business paypal account. I think Target AMEX is a better way to go, but if you need more options Paypal is worth a try. I would not exceed a $1000 balance at any time, but that's just me.

I just loaded my paypl with a My Cash card. I sent some funds to my sisters paypl. Apparently, funds loaded with a MY Cash card are not considered as "paypal balance" but rather "credit card" funds and transferring incurs fees.

Yeah, raj49, your information is incorrect.

When you transfer you have to select this option:
"I'm sending money to family or friends." |

And now they've got your bank account info, something I would certainly *NEVER* give them!

because paypal has no problem taking money out of your bank account whenever they feel like it...
