1) As a newbie, should I first send a $1 (or whatever the min amount) and see if it works?

As it has been said many times on this thread, what you are proposing IS possible. Best to make sure A and B have diff CCs and diff banks. As to whether it's wise...ultimately, no one knows why AP shuts down accts. |
Can I use my existing Amazon.com logins or should I create a different account for Amazon payments?
Also should I give them my SSN? |

How long does it take to add cash from your bank account to AP? I intiated $500 from my regular bank account on the 15th and so far nothing has happened. It is a verified account.

Possibly to verify me. I was surprised. |
I have a big family, so I'm gearing up to extend my A>B>C>A into A>B>C>D>E>F>A. Anyone know of any reasons not to do this?

So you might be limited. Also, if you're trying to use kids. Try and not use young kids as they'll ask for ID etc. |

3 AP accounts per household seems to be the number.

Yes, but how do they define a household. My 6 people are spread out over 5 houses and 2 states.

I wish I had such a large family. |
It has its drawbacks. Try having two mother-in-laws.
