I will fly MH66 (Overnight flight KUL-ICN) and wonder if I pre-order "Chef-on-Call" which meal will be "replaced" with it. Can I order a meal via "Chef-on-Call" and having it after take-off and have breakfast (one of the main courses) before landing in ICN? Or is the "Chef-on-Call" replacing just one the Main Courses and is not an additional meal.

There's only one meal for KUL-East Asia/Australia red eye as most people don't want 2 full meals on a 5-6 (7 for AU) hour redeye. Satay upon take off and on demand snacks if you want. Breakfast will be served 2.5 hours prior to arrival. Most people don't even take the satay after take-off to maximize sleeping time. And they usually serve breakfasts way too early and then you are awake and trying to figure out what to do for another 1.5 hours. If you order a CoC, it'll replace the breakfast course. You may be able to ask them to serve the CoC to you after take-off but you won't get your breakfast then.

CGK-KUL, evening flight:

A chicken dish (I believe the other option was [fried] noodles) which was not stellar but did the job.

KUL-SIN, late evening flight
Paratha which was fine for the short flight

That doesn't look very appetizing but then Garuda is probably worse on that route. I was actually pleasantly surprised by what KLM served on CGK KUL the other day but unfortunately that tag on is not operating every day.

Any recommendations for Chef on Call KUL to CGK? Am tempted by the beef but its quite tough when served in the lounge

I think you are looking at the old menu because the beef medallions isn't in the latest menu for SE Asia flights. Its seems to have been replaced by Nasi Dagang Ultra.

I'm looking at flying MH 133 from KUL to AKL in J.

Does anyone know what meals will be offered on this 10hr flight that departs 8:40am?

Here is a link to Malaysia Airlines' menu preview form: MH actually allows passengers to view the menus for most of their flights in advance

https://www.malaysiaairlines.com/us/...l#meal-upgrade

For MH 133, brunch was served after takeoff and dinner along with satay service was served prior to arrival.
There is a mid-flight on demand snack menu with your typical choices of noodles and sandwiches and various snacks.

Thanks for the link.

I could get a menu for August / September but not for my likely flight departure in October. Is the food service likely to change from the current offerings?
I try to fit in with local dining customs, but can't see me trying the banana fritters with cheddar cheese.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. The types of meals (Brunch/Mid-flight Snack On Demand/Dinner) will most likely not going to change much. But no one, other than MH, will know what the exact menu will be served a few months down the road. They have a Chef on Call program so at least you can order a good number of main courses without worrying about what the alternatives are.

Don't knock them because they are very tasty. Some staff near sell them either Biscoff and cheese... so tasty

PSA there is an hidden pitfalls for passengers sitting in the last row. MH provides Malaysian Hospitality starting from row 1, with no priority to MH or OW elites. If you are sitting in the last row, you may not be offered the meal of your choice due to the limited quantities catered for each flight. The crew was kind enough to offer me a dish from economy or their crew meal on my last flight because they admitted that the remaining pasta dish was "dry and bland".

You can also avoid this problem by booking the chef on call but on long hauls only.

Which route and aircraft type was that?

On the 737's its pretty random but is there are more than 3 or 4 platinums then often don't have priority.

I was on a flight back from BKK and in 1D and wanted a beef noodle dish.
2 OWE in 1A and !C and then a Platinum in 2A were served first and all had the beef noodles and only 3 noodle dishes were loaded - .... It's good job I ate well in the QR lounge.

On the Singapore route the hot snack service starts from the front about 50% of the time. Surely there is an SOP for such things.

I have a London flight in Dec and we are in 10A and 11A so I will make sure that the staff know my meal preference well before the service starts.

It was a 737-800 KUL to CGK. Same problem - the only spicy local dish was in high demand and only a few portions were loaded.
I was mad because the cabin staff came around to write down our orders to keep a tally. Somehow she missed that the last portion was offered to 3D and I was out of luck at 3F. The purser explained that MH SOP is take orders from front rows first - no exceptions for MH or OW status unless they know to ask.

737. I was once in 2A and my partner was in 2C (both of us with no OW status) on the SGN–KUL flight. We were served last. Meal choice: “Beef and Fish.” Yep, the last two meals: one beef for me and one fish for him. I wonder what would have happened if we both had a dietary restriction against beef.
