Here are some pics of current MH regional catering. Specifically MH797 (BKK-KUL) and MH721 (CGK-KUL). While leaps and bounds better than US3 F catering on flights of similar distances, I will say it doesn’t match up in quality to CX, SQ, and even TG. Further, the chef on call option I ordered ex-KUL (the chicken parcel) was especially poor.

Is this the chicken parcel? Er, where's the... chicken?

This is the steak(patty)😂 I’ve seen a better version of this dish , not sure if the length of the flight makes a difference. This was to HKG

inside the egg parcel. Chicken was definitely bland even with the provided sauce in MH 744 to BKK. Service was good though. Main menu options were

App: shrimp with vermicelli noodles
Mains: Barramundi (with side I forget)
Nasi Panadang with Chicken
Japanese noodles with beef and egg
Dessert: Pandan Cake

The garlic bread was actually good this time around - not stale and plenty of garlic butter plus a large size

While it's good to see they are now investing in new planes and seats, I think it needs a lot more investment in soft product, crew training and aircraft maintenance to remain competitive especially now that the post-pandemic travel boom is waning and fares are expected to fall.

Completely agree, it’s little things like not removing food coverings or lazy things like plonking the dessert on the same tray as the appetisers (on a short haul I get it, but some crews do it on the LHR flights when they’re lazy).

The icing on the cake was my experience last year when they ran out of coffee for breakfast and one FA kneeled down next to me with a delectable choice of several packaged instant coffee mixes lol. No shame on him for doing that but I’d be embarrassed to serve that especially on your longest flagship flight.

Inside that cabbage wrap thing on the left there were chicken like grey meatballs inside it, lol

Isn't the 'main' coffee choice Nescafe Gold instant?

Has anyone flown LHR - KUL or KUL - LHR recently and can share the menu? I would help me with deciding whether to go for a special meal or the regular. Thx

The menu's are available on the MH website

The menu for my flight KUL-NRT in October still hasn't been made available on the website but the preorder choices are quite extensive. Had to look up what a lot of these dishes are but I'm having a hard time deciding what amongst the Malaysian/Indonesian dishes to order though also the Teochow fish sounds good...

So playing around more with the MH website... If the menu does not show up for your particular route, try plugging it in but with the origin and destination reversed. Found the menu for my flight that way:

Looks like this is a default menu for all flights originated from KUL. Had exactly the same options for KUL-MEL and KUL-LHR.
