J class catering

Not sure if there is a separate thread but posting here for those who are curious.

Flew LHR-KUL (MH001) last week and overall was an okay/acceptable flight. Seats as expected were a bit cramped on the footwell, but the service and crew was top notch. Highly attentive, proactive refills throughout both meal services and consistently addressed by name (also the same for my travel companion who is a non-OW elite).

Food was excellent but they could do with a proper wine list, understand the cost drivers may not justify returning the extensive beverage offering. However the one area where they are really weak on the coffee gameno espresso, ran out of black coffee and only offered powdered mix coffee which feels a bit cheap for their flagship route. Also they need more rotation/variety on the menu as the current one has been the same for over a year now

packaged nuts also seems out of place in J.

overall a great middle of the road business class, not so bad but not so good either.

This might sound like an uneducated question, but for any frequent MH flyers, does MH offer their satay on shorter routes < 3 hours (i.e. KUL to/from SGN)?

https://www.malaysiaairlines.com/my/...xperience.html

Checking the website on a sample of short routes does not seem to indicate the satay offering unlike their longer Australia, LHR, NRT routes. That would be a small disappointment (although Malaysian food in general is so tasty), but the meals themselves seem good themselves!

On occasion, they serve satay as a snack on short-haul routes like KUL-SIN. Haven't seen that lately though.

That's sad but I wonder if it was a COVID cost cutting measure. Oh well, I will enjoy all of the satay on the ground then

I've had the satay on short hops to/from Penang and or Johor (I can't recall) in the past year although seem to more commonly get the roti canai with chicken curry. For once with MAB it's not obviously a cost saving thing as you'd think they pump out enough satay to keep costs low.

I had chicken satay on my flight MH628 SIN-KUL. This flight is a lunch time flight and the flight attendant commented that they do serve satay on lunch and dinner time flights KUL-SIN-KUL, but not outside this timing.

This is excellent to hear, and makes sense from a catering perspective! I have to try the ex-KUL sector of that flight then, as they must cater the outbound flight too, given the short rotation

Well, they certainly cater something for the outbound flight as well, but not necessarily satay. From the context of my conversation with the flight attendant my understanding was that on the mid-morning outbound flight they did not serve satay, but on the 12:15pm return to KL they do.
