MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

MH wants 1,460.00 HKD for a oneway upgrade from HKG to KUL ...
Its even more expensive than I purchase a J ticket directly...

Have been offered starting bids of 185usd fof MNL-KUL and 100usd for KUL-SIN.

First leg is tempting but not very tempting, but second leg definately not.

Technically, MH does say that it will credit "the original booking class", but I really don't want to fight this with two carriers who aren't likely to care. Heh.
Well!

Looks like P has been added and a new "BusinessSuite" line has been created as of Dec 1, 2018, on AA's website. Great retroactive website editing there, after I actually told my TA not to book into P class :P

At least going forward it seems like it's OK. 150% earning, 30% EQD,

hah, this past week I had 4 x domestic Business (Z) flights AND still offered MH Upgrade.

Bid was RM3000 minimum for "Business Suite" ... on a B738 ? And one of the aircraft was 9M-FFF, no IFE.

I was actually just looking at this. I have MHUpgrade offers on 6 flights today to BusinessSuite and all are 333 and 738 flights. How is that supposed to work?

So which booking class are
a) MHUpgrade
b) Instant Upgrade and
c) last minute upgrade
booked in for exmaple on SIN-KUL or KUL-HKG if booked in economy (or does the specific booking class matter) ?
I am particularly after frequent flyer points after the upgrade.

a) Any booking class
b) Same
c) Same

Note that you will not get frequent flyer points because the business class upgrade is booked in "I" class which earns zero miles on other FFP except enrich.

Been consistently offered about 1000 USD for LHR - KUL upgrades for the past few years. Never seen a worthwhile deal so far :/

Have you ever tried to do last min upgrade? eg go to the counter on day of departure and ask for upgrade?

I did once for KULLGK just wanted to try out the dom bc seat. I find that the upgrade fare on day of departure is cheaper than the lowest available rate in online bidding system.

Not sure if it is still the same considering they like to change thing here and there. I took my flight in March this year.

Can confirm last minute at the counter still works.

On Monday we asked at check in if there was any availability to upgrade KUL-MNL. We were told only two seats were left (travelling as a couple). We had a think about it because the seats were not together, not more than a minute or two, then choose to accept the MYR500 upgrades. Unfortunately, our hesitation cost us, as the check in agent called to process the upgrade she was told there was now only one seat left.

Did you check how much the lowest possible upgrade bid you can put for KULMNL via MHUpgrade before you went it was closes?

For my case the counter upgrade is cheaper than the red "poor offer"/ lowest offer. Not sure if it applies for international flight ?

As this was an Avios redemption, I was unable to bid in advance.

Ah okay, was thinking you are buying directly via MH as regular paying pax.
