compare number of seats/covers
toyko - lobby plus 3 restaurants kyoto - arrival, living, dining, spa buildings kyoto resort map may be interesting, 8 acres gardens, 72 acres forest nemu only 2 buildings, 3 sets of rooms may be more private than villas nemu pretty compressed footprint, googlemaps satellite now has image what did people here want aman to do in kyoto? if aman kyoto could occupy any land (or building) what would have been ideal? aren't beijing, shanghai, kyoto examples of 'different' ways aman can do cities? |

Secondly, a resort in Kyoto, originally touted as the Amaniwa. Hill was first introduced to the site one snowy January morning and recommended it to Zecha who visited the following week. Only 20 years later has construction commenced. A frequent visitor to Japan since 1975, Hill Impressed by his work, Zecha – who was just starting out with Regent Hotels at the time – pushed a few projects his way. In case anyone’s curious, it looks like Aman Tokyo will be handling reservations for Aman Kyoto for now. At the moment, though, they don’t have any info on rates or when reservations will open. |
Still no updates on the rates or when reservations will commence... |
Trying book a client for December and got the below info...
Aman Kyoto is scheduled to open on 01 November and should start taking reservation at mid or end of March :) |

This happens. If the product is good enough everyone may come and you still are the top game. There is no rule that an Aman must be better than a RC. BUT I think they have in wide parts different target-Groups. Many who stay at a RC won´t stay at an Aman. Guess more overlaps with FS as there isn´t a program like Bonvoy but still some different kind of guests.
Hyatt Regency Kyoto should be afraid of all of the new competition. Their hardware and facilities were inadequate before RC arrived and now they're hopelessly behind in the luxury game. |
I'm not a fan of the location of the Aman - the RC is exactly where I want to be, based what we like to do in Kyoto, and we really like the hotel. That said, I agree that it will mint money, as a certain demographic of visitor will pick the Aman anywhere as a knee jerk reaction. I used to sort of be that person but was underwhelmed by Tokyo at the price and was disappointed in a second visit report at Amanpulo and it is no longer my default. This might work in our favor, as availability and pricing at the RC might become
more appealing. |
