While the Corinthia doesn't get much love on these boards, we had an excellent stay there earlier this month in an Executive Room. Beautiful historical building tastefully renovated, especially the stunning lobby with its soaring ceilings and Baccarat chandelier. Our Executive Room was spacious, the bed incredibly comfortable, and with a very nice marble bathroom (loved the dual vanities, heated marble floors, soaking tub with built-in TV), Nespresso machine, and nice welcome amenities, including children's amenities (stuffed animal, activity book, child-size bathrobe). Not that many central London hotels have swimming pools, so that was also a plus in my book. I wish the breakfast buffet would feature fresh squeezed juices and better quality jams but these are quibbles.

Just cashed in my BA 2-4-1 companion pass for a trip next year, so naturally this is the next place I ended up.

Read through all 7 pages, and thus far doesn't sound like there has been much love for the Mandarin Oriental. Does anyone have any comments on their experiences staying there?

It's currently at the top of my list since we're planning to eat at the Heston Blumenthal restaurant.

This is from 10 October and should be helpful:

Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, England – Hotel Review
The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park stands prominently in London’s Knightsbridge district, alongside landmarks such as Harrods and several embassies. Inside the front door, a grand staircase and fireplace welcome the traveler into the towering lobby. While several hours early for check-in I was escorted to my top-floor suite within ten minutes, and it was then that It dawned on me that the area in back of this grand London hotel was even more famous than the one in front....

I was expecting exactly what you described: a casual (yet elegant in an understated way) hotel.

Unfortunately the incident was so embedded on my mind that I have not been back.
This is a strange tale. I have stayed at the Berkeley three or four times over the last few years (and have stopped in when I am staying elsewhere) and I can assure you that ties are not required at breakfast or in the bar for that matter (I haven't eaten at Marcus Waering or Kauffmans). I have had breakfast every day for a week without wearing a tie and not only was I served, I was served very pleasantly. I have had many drinks in the bar both when staying at the hotel and when staying elsewhere. If this happened to you it was some odd rogue staffer or perhaps there is something you are leaving out of the story? It is just not true that the hotel has required a tie in the public rooms in the recent past.

As to the Savoy -- I will never return. I will never even CONSIDER returning to the Savoy. The Savoy has worked hard to join a very select personal s-list that includes Plaza New York, PH Tokyo, Alpina Gstaad, and Caneel Bay.

Others here can argue FS PL vs FS CW vs Lanesborough vs Connaught et al. London has a lot of good choices. But the Savoy ain't on that list.

Personally, I preferred the Lanesborough to FS PL.
Lanesborough will be closing for renovations soon.

Four Seasons Canary Wharf update

This property is an excellent choice if you appreciate very good personalized service, an exceptional gym, and a small but perfectly run oasis of a new spa.

Having stayed here several times over the years and having been happy every time, we expected more of the same. But, this time we were with our twins, and this gave the hotel the opportunity to demonstrate how they compare in terms of service to other Four Seasons. And, boy, were they amazing at welcoming our family! A few standout points:

When we asked if they by chance had a double stroller we could borrow (they did not), they went out and bought one.

They offered bottle warmers, diapers, stuffed animals, small bathrobes, offered to prepare whatever they liked to eat and helped us whenever we needed any small (or large) assistance.

The wonderful Irish concierge was able to make a last minute reservation on a busy weekend night at Guacho's next to the restaurant (delicious Tres Leches dessert) and because we came from the Four Seasons, they gave us a round of drinks on the house (children given non-alcoholic fruit sparkling juices)

The Spa is relatively new and has the very best view of the Thames at the hotel. It is essentially an entire suite dedicated to you. I found the therapists and the view far better than the FS PL. After my massage the therapist was happy to let me sit and read a book overlooking the Thames and all of London lit at night. The products, Organic Pharmacy, were good and calming and the price was reasonable as well.

They are also very fortunate to have Emmanuale Selvaggi, the new Director of Rooms, who is bringing wonderful new ideas into action at the hotel. Be on the lookout for a new focus on the history and life of Canary Wharf, tea and the tea trade, a restaurant renovation, and renewed energy around service. Mr. Selvaggi is a manager to follow and a credit to Four Seasons.

If you are looking for excellent personalized Four Seasons service, modern décor, quiet spacious rooms, and a view of the Thames, this is your hotel.

Totally agree, a great property. Also worth noting the v cheap weekend rates offered. Coupled with the FSPP bits, it's amazing value for London.

Last time I checked prices at this hotel, they had gone up quite a bit. Maybe it's still a deal on weekends, but not midweek unless you have a good corporate rate.

Agree that FS Canary Wharf is now a lovely hotel with great service. GM Michael Purtill did a fantastic job here. Agree about the spa, too.

Some great comments about the FS Canary Warf indeed. Someone this property always eluded me as a potential choice. How's about their location? F&B? Room quality as compared to say, FSPL ?

Would never travel with luggage in the tube. But I also think the location is the big problem. Itīs a big advantage to stay at a hotel and you are at the center if you step out. Itīs not funny if you always need a 30 minute drive.

FS Canary could be great, if you mustnīt do something at the center. But for sightseeing or business in the heart of London itīs not such a great choice.

Decent access from London City (LCY) which can be useful for stopovers in London before or after a transatlantic flight as the airport is common-rated with LHR
