haha my only comparison for long tunnels is the one connecting T2A to T2B at LHR which I often contemplate subjecting myself to due to better lounge options. You guys get faux scenery, bad nature sounds , and moving walkways in *both* directions. We get... really cute photos of flight history and a vague hope that the moving walkway in the one direction that it functions is actually working. And silence. I'm debating which one is longer. Might start a thread for longest underground walkable tunnel.

It is probably also thanks to the [infamous] tunnel that I improved my running performances over the years - several late arrivals (mostly on the tea-time’s BHX service) with my other flight often already boarding, each time an excellent training session without a doubt

Moving walkways were working in both directions? I can’t remember when I recorded this but they used to play this repetitive muzak but it was enhanced away some time ago.

Yesterday's experience was some nature track with obvious technical difficulties. I did also subject myself to waiting for the opportune moment to capture photos with no one walking on the walkways. And yes, all 4 were working. It was amazing... dismal, but amazing. If this were the 90s, I would have been awed. As it is 2018, I'm wondering how we don't have those nifty individual chairs carrying us from one part of such a tunnel to the other...

B to Z non-schengen transfer
I am likely connecting from B to Z (both non-schengen flights) in a few days and I have a 90 minute layover. Does it save a lot of time to clear passport control twice, use the tunnel and avoid security? Or is it pretty equivalent to taking the skyline and going through security?
And what do you tell the immigration agents if they ask you why you want to enter Germany? Do they care if you say you are connecting and want to get to Z gates?
I am in C on LH for both incoming and outgoing. Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

Walking through the tunnel and clearing passport control twice to avoid security only works in the opposite direction (Z > B) if you arrive from a “clean” country in Z.

Unfortunately there is no way you can avoid transfer security if you arrive in B non-Schengen. I’d follow the signs for Z which will take you to the Skyline and go through security in Z. There are priority security lanes for C and F passengers.

I am arriving FRA in a couple weeks on LH442 from DTW arriving 5:40am and fly out to Italy around 9ish. From what I have read it looks like I'll be coming in to Z, but still unsure of departure area.
My main question concerns lounges as I'll be in Business. I'll have my wife and toddler son with me and ideally we'd like to get a shower as we have a long day with another flight then 2 hr train in Italy. What would be the best lounge to spend our time and hopefully experience the fewest crowds? Is it worth trying to go to the AC MLL or the LH Welcome lounge (for better breakfast and shower options)or will that involve too much excess security checks?
Sorry for the newbie questions, but our first time going through FRA. All I got after reading through is to follow the signs and most lounge suggestions seemed to be geared towards F. TIA!

If the Z Business Lounge is busy you can go through passport control and try the A13 Business Lounge for shower. If that lounge is also busy you can go landside to the Welcome Lounge. Breakfast in the Welcome Lounge is believed to be better and there are more showers but you will need to clear security after leaving the lounge which you may want to avoid with a toddler in tow.
Depending on where you are flying to in Italy your flight is likely to leave from an A gate or possibly a Schengen B gate. There is no lounge near the latter so you will have to stay in the A13 lounge. Allow 10-15 minutes to reach a departure gate in B Schengen via the transfer tunnel.
If your flight leaves from A24-42 there is another Business Lounge above gate A26 which will be more convenient. The AC MLL is in B non-Schengen and is not an ideal alternative.
If your flight from DTW happens to arrive at a B or C gate, go through passport control and go to the Welcome Lounge since you will have to clear security between your arrival and departure gate anyway.
Hope this is not too confusing!

Not confusing at all, quite the opposite and very helpful! I will keep it as reference to refer to once we know what gate we're leaving out of. Thanks so much, just the info I was looking for!

Will be arriving in FRA on a flight from the US (on UA) and leaving on a LH flight to the UK (non-Schengen).
I assume I'll arrive at Z and leave from B. Is the Skyline train the best way? Do I have to go through security or is everything airside?

If you take the Skyline train (which is the 'official' route) you cannot avoid transfer security once you arrive in B.
Some flights to the UK depart from Z but only in the evening AFAIK.

Hello All. Arriving to FRA from EWR tomorrow with connection 1) FRA-MUC, and then connection 2) MUC to non-schengen.
My layover at FRA is 1 hr 45 mins. (Flight data shows the EWR-FRA flight is often 15 to 40 mins late.)
How long is the approximate journey from Z to A & B to A? Do I stand a chance to make my connection to MUC at the A concourse?
Thank you in advance!
p.s. flying J, upper deck. ticket purchased at LH - all flights on same ticket LH brand.
