Hello everyone:
I tried a search (here and google) but didn't find the answer to my question. It's been awhile since I've been through FRA (I go through ARN or MUC/DUS; much easier) and have a friend traveling through in a couple days. He is traveling IAD-FRA-XXX. If he checks a bag, will he have to reclaim it at FRA upon transit?
As always, thanks in advance!
Tschüss.

What If We need Plan B, connecting in FRA
Hi folks,
I have been trying to read all the posts in this thread and didn't find a direct answer to a question that lot of people have asked.
MY SO is connecting in FRA, LH-LH flying in from long haul in Business. She goes on to Amsterdam on LH as well in Business but only has 40 min in connection time.
Well it was the only option we had for her to fly on the date that she needed so hoping that it will somwhow work out. I have seen LH let F and C class get off first so hopefully she won't wait for too long (I know hoping is the key word).
Qns,
1. If there is a misconnect, which counter does she go to ? LH that she missed or US Air that issued her ticket (with miles). She is eventually flying CO to Houston.
2. Will LH put he on direct FRA-IAH? Maybe US will do FRA-PHL-IAH?
3. I will keep an eye on her arrival and departure gates and will call her as soon as her plane lands in FRA. Can she just run towards her departure gate with a small carry on, following airport signage and Immigration control will fall in somhwere in the middle ? Or does she have to go to a specific location to clear Passport control before finding her gates.
I have checked history of arrival and depature gates and they are all over the place A, B, C so I will have to wait for that day itself. But from what I see, it is all T1.
She is leaving tomorrow for outbound so please share what you know.
thanks,

Where is she flying from? I take it she is flying XXX-FRA-AMS-IAH with the last segment on CO? Does she have a tight connection in AMS as well?

Isn't MCT at FRA 60 minutes? If the short connection was a result of a schedule change, I wonder if it could be used to force US to do a free itinerary change (assuming there's award inventory on LH FRA-IAD).

Unless things have changed it's 45 mins for shorthaul connections. That's why I asked where HJsimpson's SO was connecting from but since he wrote "flying in from long haul in Business" the MCT should be 60 mins as you say.

50 minute connection: LHR-FRA-TLV - will I be ok?
Hi all,
Never done such short connection at FRA so just wanted to check I'll be ok? (Should have checked before I booked, I know...)
Flight is in C and booked through BD.
When I first called up the agent wouldn’t offer me the later flight with the shorter connection, so I asked him to check separately which he did and then agreed to book it for me providing I am aware of the short connection time and that he is going to put a note that I am aware of this.
So, assuming the flight leaves LHR on time will I be ok?
And if not, am I on my own or will LH look after me? (Yes I know I was aware of the risk when booked but LH did confirm the booking...)
I am going to try and change to an earlier flight if I can but at the moment I cannot make the earlier one.
Thanks!

50 minutes is the legal connection time in Frankfurt. So, when LH sells tickets with such connecting time, it takes responsibility in case of irregularities.
If your flight is on time and your aircraft is not park at remote position, you should be just about fine, even with the secondary TLV screening (I personally made a 25 minute connection from Schengen to non-Schengen flight- and that was including a passport officer counting whether I have not used up my 90 days visa window). But then security lines were swift and stuff was efficient.
LH might send a mini bus to pick up transiting passengers who are booked in C and have very short connecting time due to delays, but it is rather an exception than a rule. Worst case, LH will rebook you onto the next flight (and if agents are busy your "I" class can become "C" ; happened twice to me).

I hope olm022's optimism is justified. AFAIK the MCT involving an intercontinental flight is 60 mins and LH400-899 is 'interkont' by rule of thumb. Is TLV an 'interkont' destination? I'm not sure.
The good news is most LHR flights now arrive at a gate position (C02 yesterday which is ideal and B46 planned for today which is a long way away) but the bad news is TLV flights always depart from C13 and involve secondary security.
Another rule of thumb is to try a dummy booking on lh.com. If your connection is offered for sale on lh.com it will be a legal connection. On a few random dates I have tried I cannot find the LH4739/LH690 combination.
I wouldn't like to book this connection personally but some people seem to want to live dangerously.

If you miss the flight, you are normally on your own.
I experienced once that a CI agent was not willing to check my luggage from point of origin through to my final destination as I was on seperate tickets and by accident was below the mct in FRA where I started the trip on the second ticket.
Arguing was not effective. I rebooked the 2nd leg.

Really? I did not know about this. I have never had a problem of booking WAW-FRA-KIX with a 45 minute connecting time. Perhas TLV does not fall into the category of such flights...
Overall, I would agree that anything involving intercontinental segment with connecting time of under 60 minutes in FRA (while being doable) is dangerous. If LH offers such connecting time, they will be responsible for missed connection (but only if it is booked under one ticket number). Personally I would not go for such option if I had to be at my destination at a set time. On the other hand, sometimes I want to change my jogging setting and do some sprinting along FRA.
Out of curiosity, on which day are you flying? Like NewbieRunner, I can't find a 50-minute LHR-FRA-TLV option

Anyways, She is flying SQ 408, LH 761, LH 4670, CO 52 (SIN-DEL-FRA-AMS-IAH).
Since she left for he outbound, the only thing we can do is try to convince US to change and put her on more direct flight (FRA-PHL is available, but they would have to open PHL-IAH)
SO the question comes to, where does she go in case of misconnect.
