Iah - fra - nce
Hi,
I'm planning a trip to NCE with my two boys (5 and 2). the options are depart IAH at 7 pm arriving in FRA with an 1 hr 15 min layover to catch a LH Codeshare flight to NCE. I 'think' the CO flight arrives in 1a and LH departs in 1A-B. Do you think an hour 15 minutes is enough time to catch the connection? The next flight is 4 hours later which with a 5 and 2 year old could be an enternity.
The other options if go through CDG but the departure flight is 3:40 p m with a 2 hr window at CDG. For those with kids the idea of the 7 pm flight is we board and kids will maximize there sleep as bed time is 7:30 pm and thus wake up fairly well rested for a long day ahead.
I'm leaning toward the FRA connection unless i hear otherwise from some expeience FRA travelers. I haven't been to FRA in 5 years.
Any advice would be helpful.
thanks
DN

If you are on one ticket and your flight from IAH arrives on time, 1 hr 15 mins is doable.
I haven't been through CDG for a while and cannot comment but it could be a lot worse than connecting in FRA.

"Doable" eh? That sounds suspicious at best
I've done CDG before and it is a very hectic airport. My only giving on this flight through FRA is it appears to be in the same terminal albeit different councourse. The outbound flights generally look pretty good for being on time. Is doable in an hour and 15 minutes a 'no problem' or doable is 'maybe you'll get lukcy'? thanks,

But I hesitate to write 'no problem' as I don't want to be held responsible should you misconnect. I assume you will be on one ticket btw?
If your IAH flight arrives at an A gate and your NCE flight departs from A or B, you will not only be in the same terminal but in the same part of T1.
I haven't been through CDG for a while now but if I remember correctly in order to go from one part of the same terminal (T2) to another you have to ride on a bus which only goes round one way or if you decide to walk it could be quite a trek even to what looks like the adjacent part of the treminal.
Whatever some posters in this forum say about FRA it's not as bad as that in my view and T1 at least is well sign-posted. (Never been to T2.)

I connected through Frankfurt twice in the past two weeks.
While I'm a novice at international air travel - I still have to question their competency at security management.
Upon arriving from US and transferring to a non-EU country... Meandering my way through the airport (not really a problem to be fair)...
Me and my travel companion came upon a security checkpoint with a single security detection line in place. We were one of the lucky ones in business class who got off first... I believe in addition to my flight it is possible another flight arrived.
The queue was astonishingly long and did not move fast... Luckily I was in the first 1/5 of the line by the time other people showed up. I do not remember seeing them open a second security line while I was there.
Upon my return I experienced something even worse. After coming down the stairs from the concourse train, we ran into a queue waiting to go through security. I was on the stairs. The line was probably 150 - 200 people long at least. Other people coming into the security line but NOT through the stairs just essentially got in line ahead of us. No one was there to properly manage the growing line. I believe they eventually put more machines into service and the line sped up, but not before waiting 30+ minutes.
I understand that waiting in security lines is part of travel.
But this level of chaos should not be part of travel. Other than delayed flights, the airport DOES know when flights arrive.
FRA just seemed slow to react and the infrastructure (personnel and real estate) to properly deal with the crowds.

My worst experience was not security but waiting for 1 hr 40 mins last summer to go through immigration at ORD after sitting on the plane for 20 mins before deboarding because there was no room in the immigration hall. Our flight was already late and connecting pax had to be reaccommodated but most of them also missed their new connecting flight because of the chaos.

Again it's one thing when the airport has an unexpected situation happen, but considering the setup, with people on the stairs getting "bumped" by people coming into line from the same floor that security was on...
It was quite aggravating - more so that we were in a long line, it was crowded and quite hot really - and then the icing on the cake was people who were bumping ahead of us in line.

First time connecting through FRA and MUC and would appreciate some advice. In late June, I will be taking LH 401, JFK-FRA, arriving at 5:35AM, then taking FRA-MUC, 7:05 AM - 8AM and continuing onto MUC-LWO at 9:35 AM. All LH flights in C class with the last flight on Cityline.
Will there be enough time for a quick shower in FRA? Which lounge would you recommend? Or should I wait and grab a shower in MUC?
Also, is this considered a non-Schengen to Schengen to non-Schengen and requires going through immigration? Will I need to retrieve checked bags before the final destination of LWO (Lviv, Ukraine)?

No need to retrieve bags. But you will go through immigration twice of course - as all people flying direct on FRA-MUC don't go through immigration at all obviously. Shower will be tight in both MUC and FRA probably. I would try at FRA as you arrive quite early, so there shouldn't be a long queue. Your FRA-MUC flight will leave from the A pier, so make your way there as quickly as possible and go to the business lounge opposite gate A26.

In MUC you have access to a Business Lounge assuming you are not *G.

I'm connecting in FRA Schengen to the US (A-gates) on Wednesday, and trying to plot out my route. It's been a month since I was last through there.
Assuming the bus drops me off at B2, is my best option:

- Exit to the lobby, up the escalator and through security?
- Take the tunnel to the far side of A, up the escalator and through security?
- Exit Schengen to the B concourse, walk to C, take the Skyline and then through security?

FRA transit 1.5 hrs too tight?
Hi, I might be a little paranoid here but I am flying AMS-FRA-JFK(in LH J) with little less than 1.5 hrs connection time in FRA. I read somewhere there are different areas for Schengen and non-Schengen flights. Assuming AMS-FRA flight lands on time, would there be enought time go through security and make the connecting flight, maybe even some lounge time? Thanks.

The minimum connection time in FRA is 45 minutes and I have had no problems with connections of around this time before at FRA - though others experiences may vary - FRA can get busy!! In CPH I have even had no problems with a 35 minute connection time.
So as long as your flight is not too late arriving in to FRA, you have loads of time for some food, coffee, etc!
