Agreed. It's a US requirement & "travels through 6 SE Asian and Middle East countries in the past 4 weeks" may have had something to do with it. Still, shouldn't have taken much time & involved excessive unpacking of bags.

Sorry, braindead day. By the title of your link, I thought it was to some kind of an explanation what SSSS is. Didn't try, so my bad. Thank you!

After the biggest increase in my visits to SE Asia and SW Asia since 2015, the frequency of my being hit with haraSSSSment screening on US-bound flights thereafter has plummeted to the lowest levels ever in the past 20+ years. For whatever reasons, the airline security contractors don’t seem to have me or my travel party members popping up as a “baddie” or “quota” target as much as before. Let’s see if SGM gives me the same treatment next week — but I have my doubts that I’ll get hit by haraSSSSment screening on my US-bound flight even as my tickets will be booked as one-way, same-day or next-day flight tickets as is usual for my travel booking pattern.

On my last SSSS flights with LX to the US, the security contractors at ZRH more or less waived me from the security theater. With UA or LH out of MUC and FRA, that kind of waiving me from the SSSS dog and pony show has never happened to me.

Honestly, I don't get it - pre-COVID whether it was MUC or FRA - it was a 50% chance that I would get the SSSS, so at least twice a year - as I was flying out of WAW, I would get the classic WAW female inspection including shoe removal (men tend to only get hand and shoe swipes) and then at the transfer point I would have to go through the rigamarole of unpacking my bags and removing my shoes. The fact that I have a Trusted Traveller number was irrelevant. The German staff was not pleasant.

I spoke to a Belgian in the diamond trade, who was on one of these flights, we sort of had met at the search line and then were sitting 'next to each other' and he said that he had totally relegated himself to the idea that he would be searched each time he flew over. Once or twice a month, on the same route, on the same flights, for the same number of days. Once he said that I just relegated myself to trying to be patient.

55 min inter-EU connection at MUC

Considering purchasing a ticket in J from NCE-MUC-ATH with 55min in MUC. Is this advisable? The other flight would get in much later and would not suit our schedule nearly as well. I haven't connected in MUC on an inter-EU flight since about 2014 so don't really remember how seamless (or not) it was.

It is perfect. When on 1 ticket there is nothing to worry about. Go for it!

Does anyone (aside from me) remember when LH was using DUS as a connection for TATL flights with a connection onward in something like 35 minutes? I did not believe it would work, but it did.

Very doable in myexperience as long as the inbound is not late more than around 15 min.
I would check flighnradar24 or a similar site to see how often your flight was late in the past to see the probability.

There's exactly one airport in Europe where this will work, and it's MUC.

Considering OP is in J (therefore first out) and connecting Schengen to Schengen, I see about 20 minutes fudge time in there. If they catch good gates and arrive on time, maybe a bit early, there's even time to pop in to the lounge for a glass of beer or wine.

There's definitely more. I routinely buy and make a 35 minute connection in VIE. Schengen to Schengen I'd be happy with 55 min also in ZRH. non-LH group also in CDG as long as it's T2F not T2G and PRG back in the days you could actually connect there.
