100% Green: Been there and done that. 5 hours is more than enough time. BY *A lounge, I guess the FCT terminal qualifies, and I'd have to give my vote to it for the best lounge. . In actuality, I like the F/HON MUC lounge best, other than my dear FCT.

1 hr connection JFK-MUC-LHR

I'm pleased to read, from the 100+ posts in this thread, that connecting in MUC is easy and so my 1 hr between flights (JFK-MUC-LHR on LH) should be more then enough. But JFK afternoon departures are notorious for their delays (sometimes we actually get a drop of rain, can you imagine, causing the entire airport to rapidly rust and grind almost to a halt). Fortunately there are many MUC-LHR flights, even one that will arrive in LHR in time for my onward flight from LHR (on BD). So, my question is, as a UA *G flying on a business class award ticket, who has (hypothetically) missed my MUC-LHR flight, will I have any priority over other misconnected passengers when LH decides who is allowed to board the next MUC-LHR flight?

Been through this MANY times. LH will put you on the next flight with C class availability - NO problem. I've misconnected UA to LH in Biz Award/First Awards and LH to LH with UA issued awards and never had a problem with them putting me on the next flight.

If you do get into MUC late go to one of the lounges or the customer service counters and they will take care of you. There is a slim chance if the aircraft you are going to get on has no open seats in C they will put you in Y if you want the sooner flight. For a 1hr 30 min flight intra europe Biz and YU are about the same, just middle seat blocked and a meal vs a small snack.

If LH does not know upfront that you will misconnect, then LH will hand out any remaining seats on other flights on a first-come first-served basis.

Should the flight already be full, your UA *G status will certainly give you appropriate priority on the airport standby list.

Should LH already know that you will misconnect while you are in the air, odds are that you have already been rebooked by the time you land.

Split Ticketing

I've searched through this thread and the LH forum and haven't found an answer.

I have a trip coming up later this year to KBP. I've found that if I do split ticketing that the fare is significantly cheaper than booking the entire trip onto one PNR.

So my flights would be (in Business Class)
PNR 1 (LH) - ORD-MUC
PNR 2 (LH) - MUC-KBP

There is only 35 minutes between flights. I've done short connections in MUC plenty of times, but since these would be 2 separate PNRs, would I have any issue getting placed onto a later MUC-KBP flight if the ORD-MUC flight was delayed?

Thanks for your advice.

Is your business class ticket flexible ? Then you have no problem, otherwise I wouldn't risk it, 35 minutes for a connection on a seperate ticket even for MUC is a lottery. Don't forget, you will have a security screening after arrival.

Munich Connections

Hi - I am planning a trip from the U.S. to Italy on Lufthansa that connects in Munich. There is a little over an hour to make the connecting flight. I am not experienced with international flights that connect. What can I expect (customs/immigration) when I get to Munich and how much time do I need to connect?

Welcome to FlyerTalk, plirvin!

You question will receive much better answers in the Lufthansa Miles and More Forum.

Because FlyerTalk discourages cross-posting, the best thing to do is click on the red triangle icon, and ask one of the moderators to move it to that forum (in fact, to save time, I have done that for you). Good luck!

2x on the Welcome!
The short answer to your question: Customs in Munich is easy and quick typically. An hour is doable, but try to find out if your ongoing flight leaves from the same terminal (T2) or if you'll have to switch to T1. I believe your checked baggage will not have to be rechecked...which makes things easier.

All Lufthansa flights leave from the same terminal (T2). You'll be fine...you just have to clear immigration, which is usually a 5-10 minute task at the most and then walk to your departure gate. Don't dawdle getting of the plane, but no need to run like OJ Simpson through the terminal, either.

You will pick up your bags at your final stop.

changing carriers

Does it matter if we're changing carriers? We have options that include either Lufthansa or Air Dolomiti. Thanks again!

No, not if it is all on one booking. In any case Air Dolomiti is owned by LH as part of their regional network. MUC is a delight to connect at (well, compared to a lot of other major European airports you could care to mention!)
