Card hassles..

After applying for the card about 3 weeks ago, I finally received a letter in the mail saying I need to call their 800 # and give them more information before they can process the application.

Just called them, and they asked me 3 questions that I had already answered on the application form I think (like name, last 4 of social, and DOB).

Then, he said he could approve it on the spot and give me a $20,000 credit line initially. My two other credit cards have significantly higher credit limits, so it's not clear to me why they have so little trust in me. Oh well.

You'll receive your card, pin, and cardmember agreement within the next 10 days. Set up online access now. Select GO to create a username and password.

strange processing, but i'm happy as long my name shows up correctly on my new card :-)

Yes, it does seem that their application processing is a bit haphazard. I had applied online about a week ago. No response. When I checked the status online two days later, it said that my application was denied which I found very strange since I have an excellent credit rating, no debt (other than a mortgage on my house, with a huge equity), and I pay all my bills on time. (Perhaps the latter is the problem -- they can't make any money from interest payments out of me.) Anyway, today I got an email saying my application was approved, with a whopping big credit line. Go figure...

the USA card is not named.

So I got my Platinum Card today (ya ya, it's crummy to just having to start work and start low, but you gotta start somewhere!) and it says the same rules for no miles expiration (use it once every three months, bla bla....)
Can anyone verify that? Cause the name isn't listen here:
http://www.miles-and-more.com/online...st=72837044242

Then again, the Platinum isn't mentioned anywhere! That's not nice btw...! They only discuss the World and the Premium. (Also the 2$ for every 1 mile is somewhat ridiculous).... I heard if you upgrade though, you get the reward difference. (ie: 15000 miles - 5000 miles = 10,000 miles). Can anyone verify that as well or was the Barclays personel over the phone pulling my tail ??

Well when I got my (second, corrected) card I too was concerned as it didn't say Platinum anywhere. But I confirmed it was online. It seems Premier = Platinum and others are standard.

BTW the miles expiry conditions you quote are for non elite status members.

well, mine DOES say Platinum on the bottom right . Premier is not the Platinum (at least I dont think so :S) My credit line is low since I just started work and own 2 Credit Cards only with failry low credit lines. You get 5000 bonus miles instead of 20,000 (the premier) and 1 dollar is 2 miles (instead of the regular 1:1 ratio).

That's why I'm worried about mileage expiration. You think it still hold true for the Platinum card? And WHYYYYY is there no where on milesandmore and Barclays where the Platinum (not the Premier or the World) is discussed??

1:2 ratio? 2 miles for every $1 seems like a much better offer for the heavy spender. Even with lower initial bonus miles you can make up the difference veeery fast.

Yup!

Why would you use such a card when you can get 1:1 ratios on a UA card or AmEx or 1:1.25 for an AmEx Starwood??

you're right. That's what I get for typing late at night! 1 miles for every 2 dollars (otherwise I wouldn't be complaing ) hehe.

But seriously now, why isn't there any info on the card anywhere? It almost feels like its not advertised anywhere because of its for people who have just started working and have low credit lines or something. Did anyone here got a Platinum and not a World or Premier?

Me - so I canceled immediately, but they still put a balance transfer (or so they said, for a lesser amount) through!

So I went around and lowered credit lines across the board, will axe a few here and there, and then reapply! Let's see what happens!

At the moment, I'm not too worried about getting the higher level card. I just want to make sure the miles dont expire. I called Barclays and they said the Platinum is the same with mileage expiration. Use it once every three months and you will be ok. I guess they are right. Ill call and speak to another agent tomorrow to verify that story.
And hopefully in a few month apply for the World one after maintaing an excellent record.
