JAL shows what's possible if you're not trying to over-engineer things...

And the JL A350 was delayed by how many months? (In spite of using Airbus' inhouse seat supplier Safran)

The cabins are very impressive in their design throughout, and — despite months of delays largely caused, JAL executives tell Runway Girl Network, by delays at Safran Seats and their supply chain — are mostly in a decent production quality, despite some fit and finish issues including scratch wear with polystone material used on the tray table, and some misaligned intersections between large part subassemblies.

At least we talk in "months" as unit of delay, not years or almost decades as with LH group Plus the result is something that can be defined as a premium product

Looks like a timeline is finally coming together per blogger OMAAT

  • Lufthansas new Allegris business class should launch on newly delivered Airbus A350-900s out of Munich in May 2024
  • Lufthansas new Allegris business class should next launch on newly delivered Boeing 787-9s out of Frankfurt as of July 2024
  • Lufthansas new Allegris first class should launch on newly delivered Airbus A350-900s out of Munich as of September 2024

Will you put any faith in it?

While easy and obvious to criticise LH for the slow adaptation and lack of implementation of Allegris since its announcement, one cannot (yet) legitimately criticise them for the speed once they finally start implementing it.
One very bad example that they hopefully don't follow would be the snail-like implementation of Polaris across all applicable planes over at UA.

According to https://www.aerotelegraph.com/luftha...kt-nach-teruel
its going extremely..errr.well!

1st and 2nd A350 that was supposed to be outfitted with Allegris sent directly to Spanish desert instead of FRA or MUC because the consortium of seat suppliers is facing delivery issues..

Maybe well be lucky and theyll keep doing this until they re-do the concept and simplify it.

The current concept has been submitted to EASA and FAA for the A359/B789 in Q3 and is still pending approval. The seats will be fitted as per the approval once the STC is granted.

Interesting that Aerotelegraph has it differently:

But Lufthansa's seat suppliers - Collins, Recaro, Stelia, Thompson and Zim Aircraft Seating work on Allegris, as well as Pearson Lloyd and Priestman Goode as designers - have delivery problems. And that is why the brand-new A350 was flown by Lufthansa in December from the Airbus factory in Toulouse not to Frankfurt or Munich, but to Teruel in Spain. And now the D-AIXR has been followed by a second A350.

Maybe they have a different source, I'm just repeating what I heard in the call with the head of the Allegris Project on November 13.

That begs the question whether it is customary to announce a new seating concept before having obtained required approvals/certifications.

Each aircraft type needs a STC from the regulator before the new cabin is installed. Previously such STC were issued in weeks, now it takes months. The STC can only be applied for after one line or retrofit is done in one aircraft. This has been done on D-ABPF and D-AIXR and now the approval is pending. The same procedure is followed by all seat/cabin/aircraft manufacturers.

However I think one can fairly argue that the complexity that LH put into their Allegris cabin is likely a key reason why this takes months... (and rightly so, as the risk that sth. is not done well is much higher. So it is good that the regulators don't rush). The airlines who sticked much closer to standard products clearly did not wait that long. The blame overall is fully on LH for their decision to go with this in-house solution... All the issues we have now (certification, supply chain, etc.) would be less an issue without the messy Allegris cabin design

Very insightful. Thank you.
