An update:

November 19, 2015 9:21 AM UTC
Lufthansa Group | Group
Worldwide Rollout of the Business Class Signature Service at March 1st 2016

After having been performed on over 2500 flights, the new Business Class Signature Service, BCSS, is about to be extended to all long-distance flights.

The worldwide rollout is going to take place at March 1st this year. Stations in America and Africa are going to be equipped accordingly and caterers are going to be prepared for the changes in the next weeks.

As a result the upgraded and flexible service will be available for all our passengers in the Business Class in spring next year. “The signature service is an important step on our way towards becoming the first western 5-star-airline. With that step, wishes of our guests for a more individual and personal service can be fulfilled better”, says Stefan Wendlandt, head of the project.

In summer 2015 Lufthansa has started to gradually introduce the completely new designed Business Class Signature Service. The new service has been tested and adapted beforehand in workshops in the Mock-up in Raunheim.

The BCSS started on June 1st on the so called “Phase-in flights” on the A380 to JFK and since July 1st to MIA. Since August 1st the BCSS is available on all A380 routes, since October 1st on all B747 routes to Asia and to the Middle East, and since October 25th on the A330/340 routes to Asia and the Middle East from Frankfurt and Munich.

Finnair has also implemented a similar concept:

Finnair revamps its business class with a Nordic touch - Finnair

Inspired by pure essentials, Nordic design and meaningful encounters, Finnair’s new service concept will offer a wider range of dining and wine options, served on-demand and at a customer’s preferred time, just as if you were in a restaurant.

“More than ever, our Business Class customers enjoy the opportunity to customize their travel and dining experience,” says Piia Karhu, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience at Finnair. “Our objective is to create an unspoken bond with our guests, every time they fly. We have dedicated cabin crew personnel for business class passengers, providing a more individual service, with the aim of setting new standards for comfort and overall well-being onboard Finnair flights.

LOL
Finnair (and anything scandinavian based) are never able to offer compearable to LH Business class service.
Due their sicialistic approach: if you fly in business class you must be rich and rich people are bad.

Lufthansa Business Class - Meal Orders Question

Hello,

Recently booked a flight on LH in Business Class. I am wondering what method LH uses for meal orders in J/C. Do they use FEBO? Always start at the front? Always start at the rear? My flight is an odd numbered flight (PVG-FRA, daytime flight on the A380).

Thanks!

LH clusters business pax in groups of 8-14 which are served by one FA. They call it the restaurant/signature service where your order is taken like a restaurant. So no FEBO in place. If meals are running out, the choice of the SEN/HON is taken care of first.

I’m on a newly configured 744 all J sitting up top. Do they just go from front to back?

you have 2 FA’s... one serves the fromt section before row 84 and the other 84 to the back... it goes front to back, but I am really wondering, what difference does it make since the restaurant service as descrined above will get everyone their respective meal within a 2 minute time window?

Service order on the upper deck of LH 747-8?

Hi everyone. My dad is flying from FRA to ORD in early April on a LH 747-8.

I did a cash upgrade so he could fly upper deck. He is flying solo. This will probably be his last transatlantic flight so I thought he would enjoy it. (He's mid 70s.) However, I have never flown LH myself, and other than what I can see on SeatGuru I don't know much about their seating and service order.

Is there a trick to making sure he gets a seat where they won't run out of meal choices? (I'm not sure if they go front to back, or do sections, etc.) And, frankly, any other seat advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

Lufthansa operates on a so called "signature service" or restaurant concept in business. The flight attendants are assigned 8-12 pax to serve and the take the order like in a restaurant. There is no front to back system.

Great choice. I recommend to opt for one of the front seats in 81 (bulkhead) or 82. window seats feel very private and have direct access to a great storage compartment.

LH service IMHO typically excels. It’s normally not over the top, but formal, professional courteous and authentic. LH J to me compares with BMW 5 series, Audi A6 or Merc E-class: there are more luxurious and flamboyant alternatives, but ultimately the performance of the entire package is rather good.

I would say it’s between a nice VW Golf on a bad day and an Audi A6 on a good one.
