If and when a particular strike begins and flights are actually beginning to be cancelled, you can call LH and ask for a rebooking/rerouting.
LH usually rebooks to other LH Group carriers, any star alliance carrier or other IATA airline it has an interline agreement with. The preference to do so is in the same order and done only if the preferred alternative doesn't have any free seats in the class of service (not booking class). Award bookings are treated the same way, although you may be requested to contact the issuing carrier for reissuing the ticket. LH issued tickets are usually reissued using the ATC irreg system.

Against the background of the announced strike by the Independent Flight Attendants Organization (UFO) on Lufthansa flights on Thursday 26th of November, Friday, 27th of November and Monday, 30 of November 2015, Lufthansa is trying to keep the effect of the strike on its customers as low as possible.

Lufthansa returns to almost normal operations from Saturday onwards

After the end of the longest strike in the companys history, Lufthansa will already return to almost normal operations on Saturday and will offer its customers the usual service as soon as possible.
All scheduled long-haul connections will be able to operate on Saturday. Furthermore the long-haul connections from Frankfurt to Hong Kong, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, which were scheduled to take off on late Friday evening, will be delayed to Saturday morning. Thus a cancellation of these connections can be avoided.
Lufthansa will also return to almost normal operations on short- and medium-haul flights on Saturday. Due to operational reasons, there can be occasional flight cancellations, if the aircraft or crews are not yet at the site of operation.
Lufthansa would like to sincerely apologize again to all customers, who have been affected by the strike of the Independent Flight Attendants Union (UFO) during the past days. The company has done its utmost to keep the effects on their customers as low as possible.
Altogether the company was forced to cancel approximately 4,700 flights during seven strike days. Affected by these cancellations were approximately 550,000 passengers.

Due to the strike actions Lufthansa has to cancel 126 long-haul and 10 continental connections resulting in about 27.300 passengers being affected by flight cancelations. Nearly all German and European continental flights will be operated as scheduled.

LH usually rebooks to other LH Group carriers, any star alliance carrier or other IATA airline it has an interline agreement with. The preference to do so is in the same order and done only if the preferred alternative doesn't have any free seats in the class of service (not booking class). Award bookings are treated the same way, although you may be requested to contact the issuing carrier for reissuing the ticket. LH issued tickets are usually reissued using the ATC irreg system.

Where they have no choice, like destination to non *A hubs or peripheral airports of countries where *A is not the national carrier, rebooking onto other alliances is quite straightforward IME.

I fully support the constitutionally enshrined right to strike here-but not for the petty unrealistic reasons the UFO are claiming, and certainly not for more pay for already overpaid pilots. And this happens quite frequently with LH.

My flight from LHR to FRA last Monday got cancelled and all BA flights were already sold out. I ended up having to fly the day after. I spent an hour calling to the German service desk, had to arrange a hotel and transport myself.
I did not get a clear answer as to whether or not these expenses will be compensated. I was told I well get some kind of reinbursement, but how much they could not tell me.
Also, is this strike really an extraordinary event? I heard there have been case rulings were pre announced strikes were deemed to be a non-extraordinary event. If so, will I be able to claim compensation as per the predefined EU legislation?

The Civil Aviation Authority states that strikes by airline staff (as opposed to air traffic controllers) do not count as an extraordinary circumstance unless they are wildcat strikes without advance notice. This is because they are, to some degree, within the control of the airline which can make alternative arrangements. Compensation would therefore be due even if your departure had been scheduled after the strike began.

We were flying BOS/MXP in Sept. when there was a pilot strike. LH rebooked us on LH flight the next day BOS/FLR. We had to overnight in BOS. At the hotel I found out from flyertalk that strike would be in Europe the following day so our rebooking would be of no help. Next morning got to airport 10 a.m. even though LH desk wasn't going to open until 1 or 2. We were first in line but not by much. Airport personnel kept coming by the line to remind us the desk wouldn't be open until after 1 but most passengers left at least 1 person in line.
While waiting, I called Chase concierge and found Delta had seats in Business BOS/FLR. When desk opened I told agent. She said she could see coach but couldn't see Business. I pressed that I just found out they had them. She then talked to another agent and we were booked on the Delta in business. It was a great flight experience.

I was for last few days hoping the strike would be over by Friday, which now seems less and less likely.
I'd like to fly STR - MUC - DXB on LH.
Would I be right to proactively book a refundable flight on Turkish (leaving just 1 hr later than original flight and arriving around same time as my original plan)? My thinking: if Lufthansa finds a solution, I'll cancel...
- would they accept my booking, OR will I be a problem case if / when the flight gets cancelled?
- STR - MUC has operated in past few days: should I make my booking maybe on EK from MUC?
- I'd be able to go to other airports, as well, but I guess changing airports will only cause problems for them... or not?
- is TK class M fully refundable?

Let me see...the LH unions (pilot/crew) think it's perfectly acceptable to disrupt the lives of many tens of thousands of people and wreak havoc on the business and countless other businesses in order to have an increase in wages and benefits that they could not get anywhere else on the planet...BEFORE their ill-concieved strike, and they're doing all this to a business governed by an incompetent, tone-deaf management team who are incapable of effectively managing their labor force, and are seemingly oblivious of their sorely damaged reputation in the past year. I'm at a loss as to why the German government tolerates this or fails to react in a timely manner.
