I understand that press release so, that the plane has been handed over to LH. (meaning that LH has accepted it and paid for it?)

Could someone explain, what they have to do until May 1st before they fly it to FRA? Does someone know the ETA at FRA?

Aircraft usually undergo export formalities en route, normally no one notices except when it is that very first aircraft

May 2 is set for the press in FRA.

That's reminded me. I like both A380 & 747-8I.

748 to IAD, ORD, LAX, DEL and BLR - Code: 74H

todays press release.

27.04.12

New flagship will fly to Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago, Delhi and Bangalore
From today, passengers can book flights on Lufthansa’s first Boeing 747-8, which has just been delivered from Seattle. From 1 June, Lufthansa will operate six flights per week with the “Queen of the Skies” on the Frankfurt-Washington route. Over the next few months, as four more new Jumbo jets join the fleet, the number of destinations served by the aircraft will be gradually increased. By late summer, 747-8 flights will be offered to Delhi, Bangalore, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Once the 747-8 enters scheduled service, passengers will also have an opportunity to enjoy Lufthansa’s revamped Business Class. The new Business Class seat provides exceptional comfort, whether in an upright or reclined position or as a lie-flat bed, plus intuitive adjustments, additional storage space and an enhanced inflight entertainment system. At the press of a button, the seat converts into a comfortable bed with a horizontal sleeping surface measuring 1.98 metres in length.

The 747-8 Intercontinental will bring double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions per passenger over its predecessor, the 747-400. It is also much quieter, and generates a 30 per cent smaller noise footprint. A wealth of information about the “Queen of the Skies” is available at www.lufthansa.com/747-8 The website also features a competition with the chance to win two flights with the Boeing 747-8.

Actually I am very interested to see how the new ("square"-ish design) F seats fit into a "curvy" nose section of the B748i

Win two tickets on 747-8

Win two tickets for a flight in the new jumbo, one of two exclusive, limited edtion chronograph watches, a bath towel or a coffee mug in the 747-8 design.

In the coming weeks we would like to regularly send you new 3D components, from which you can assemble your own virtual 747-8 piece by piece.

To register

In order to win two Y tickets, you have to build your own aircraft!

I don't know how to read these so I need your help.

How is it possible to be on board of the first 416 and 419 June 1 on the cheap -- I mean by paying the lowest possible price -- and how much will it cost to fly on the lowest price?

For a whY class RT on the LH site it gives humongous prices!

I can't seem to figure out anythng decent.

How about crew training flights with passengers?

(Maybe intra-Germany?)

Any news on those? Have they been published yet?

Flight crew will take the bird for a spin without pax in LEJ, they can't fly with pax till the check flight has been done. Cabin crew will not train on live flights.

If you are SEN (or know one who will lend you the miles from his/her account) you can get the IAD inaugural by WL an award, which should clear because D is still available for sale. Awards to/from Europe to IAD are currently 55k miles, so this would be a steal (if you ignre the 600-700$ in taxes and fuel surcharges)

Thank you.

If I want to buy the two flights in whY class on the LH website it gives me a total of € 2235.12 to do both inaugurals FRA-IAD-FRA

which is quite off limits I must say.

I called United to see if I could do the flights using MP miles.
They see a number of open mileage seats available in whY class for both flights only for the fact that they cannot sell or even not waitlist them.

They had to send out a message to the supervisor in the US about selling the seats which they said might take about a week to answer.

I tried doing a simulation directly on the United website only that neither of the two flights are showing in their system for mileage seats availability.

Reason for this is most probably that you are tryinng to return the same day. Returning the same day forces you to buy "Y" or "B" booking class, which are the most expensive.

There are cheaper fares available which have a minimum stay requirement (like 3 day min. stay or week end stay requirement.)

If you want to return on the same plane, I do not see how you can make it cheaper, unless you get an award ticket as suggested above.
