FWIW - the RCC in terminal 7 does have a 'quiet room' in the back with flat couches and it's kept dark enough to grab a few hours of sleep before your connection (earplugs work to keep out the noise).
I recently spent 13 hours there killing time before an evening flight and aside from a couple of busy times, I found it comfortable enough so as not to spend the extra $$ for a hotel room. Not sure if the IFL has something similar or possibly better. |
The Westin lounge is not a bad place to take a nap. I have used it to snooze before a flight before. There is no wesitn lounge in the IFL but the overall lounge will be less crowded. It will make sense to leave the airport to take a break. The Encounter restaurant is very good which has nice views. You can also take a cab to Santa Monica which is a 15 min ride away.

Lots of good suggestions; I'll move this to the Los Angeles Forum so that other non-UA travellers can add their input.

Check with the hotels and ask about a "day room" rate. Several of the airport area hotels offer them for less than an actual room rental and permit early check-in.
I usually check for airport area hotels with free shuttle service and wi-fi on Hilton.com, Choice Hotels.com and Hotels.com but I think all the alliances will have day rooms. You do have to ask, though. They usually don't advertise. |

12 hours in LAX: what to do?
Hi
I am due to arrive in LAX at 22:00 and departing about 12 hours later. Many posters have said it is impossible to sleep in LAX. Is it really that bad? Apart from pricelining a cheapie, are there any suggestions of how to spend the night? Thx! |
6 Hours Layover in LAX, what to do?
Any sugestions for passing 6 hours in LAX?
|
At the airport or away from it?

Some folks catch a movie or walk the beach, go shopping etc. Just one thing is the key: Taxis are expensive out of LAX. Renting a car is fine (sometimes) but requires a bit more time to get started. |
1 night in LA
Hi,
My brother & his family will be arriving in LA Friday 27th March around 7am, from Australia - and leaving the following morning; driving to SF. They need somewhere to stay & things to keep the occupied for 24 hours; first instinct is to stay around LAX, but not sure if they will keep them entertained for a day - or alternatively, stay somewhere closer to West LA and perhaps do a Hollywood tour? This will be there only time in LA; having a memorable experience is not really their expectation - more something to do to kill 24hrs while getting over jetlag. Any ideas? Thanks, Simon. |

I would stay in either Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach.
Plenty of things to do, shopping and restaurants and just a few miles ($20 taxi) from LAX There are some really nice places like Shade Hotel or Beach House but there are some less expensive places that are nice too. http://www.yelp.com/search?find_loc=...ng&cflt=hotels |

Ok, I have read through this thread and have not found any good shower options. Is is safe to say that LAX is not a good airport for a quick shower upon arrival? My wife and I are arriving about 10AM and depart about 4.30PM and would like to have lunch and shower. The Ayara restaurant mentioned earlier seems great for lunch but I haven't found any good shower options unless I missed it.....any ideas? Thanks.
