I thought all of the nude places (and I do remember them, just from the signs outside, of course) had closed years ago. And we did eat at the Carl's Jr. (did not see skeeze or sleeze, but if I missed the nude bar, who knows what else I missed?).

We were going to try the Proud Bird recently, but the hotel had a free shuttle to LAx, so we went to the Encounter again. One good meal (my "Peking Duck," a duck breast with semi-spicy sauce) and one not so great (my wife's ravioli with mushrooms-- it was the size of an appetizer, not a main dish). The danger in going to the Encounter is not hitting traffic but getting hit by traffic, since you need to cross 2-3 airport roads.

Get in at 8:42PM, leaving at 9:20AM the next morning. I'll probably grab a cheap hotel near the airport, but is there anything else I can do!? (I might try for in & out!)

Depends on what you are in the mood for... there is plenty to do :)

Just something to kill a few hours more or less, anything from drinking to exploring. :p

I have an 8-hour layover in LAX. I'll be coming from Manila and my ticket itinerary will be MNL-NRT-LAX-SFO.

Question:
Do i need to check-out my luggage in LAX and check them in again going to SFO?
If not, can I ask the checkin counter in Manila to check-out 1 of my luggages in LAX cause i want to drop 1 of my luggages to my Mom in LA.

Thanks!

Being that it is an International flight without customs pre-clearance, you will have to claim your bags before going through customs. Since you will have your bags anyways, you can just choose not to re-check one of them.

If you like to gamble, Hollywood Casino is nearby (3 miles). Or you can go to In n' Out like you said and plane watch. Check out the revolving restaurant (Encounter).

Check out Hermosa Beach Pier. There's some lively atmosphere there at night.

What's there to do at LAX?

I have a flight out at 6am, but have to be dropped of at LAX 6hrs earlier (midnight). Can I get pass security check point at midnight? Is there anything to do that late at night? Heard it's impossible to sleep there.

I wouldn't hang around outside LAX. The immediate area isn't the nicest place to be.

The international terminal should be open but I'd suspect most of the stores that are good for killing time won't be. Nor will the lounges. Leaves you a chair and putzing around your laptop.

Seems like you'd be better off spending some time at a local hotel and taking their shuttle over. The hilton for example has a 24-hour self-service cafe inside. Not exactly a great evening but it's a start [and a lot safer than wandering the area as Interpol pointed out].

Alternatively there's a 24 hour fitness nearby. Could start with a nice workout... kills an hour or two and you get some TV time.

If I was in that situation, I would get dropped at an airport hotel and get some quality sleep time in a real bed. If you go the hotel route, I'd suggest your ride drop you off earlier than midnight.

Other than than, I really cannot advise you of any good alternatives. You can't even go to a bar, since bars close at 2 am. (Or so they tell me. I'm sound asleep at that hour.)

hilton cafe

The Hilton 24hr self-serve cafe sounds nice. Is it open to the public or just to their guests?

And my flight is a Southwest domestic flight so I don't think I'll be near the international terminal.

Would it be possible to for go the midnight drop off, and take one of the shared van services to LAX at a more reasonable time?

maize&blue Jun 24, 2011 5:11 pm

Maybe I'm lazy, but I'd just queue up 3 movies rather than encounter the sort of people hanging around outside LAX between midnight and 6 AM.
