Rent a van.

Go to In-N-Out (damn I miss that place not living in the west anymore)

Eat the most delicious burger known to man.

Pass out in the mini van with a happy belly.

Wake up, drive to the airport.

I really do not want to spend a night in LAX itself (ewwww, the thought makes me want to take a shower), but I am not really upto spending $$ for a hotel for that short amount of time. In reality I can only get about 5 hours of solid sleep and less assuming I hit In N' Out up. Any suggestions?

I would use Priceline for a three star hotel. It would get you out of the airport, give you a chance for a shower, and a nap -- or their shuttle will put you closer to In n Out :) Probably get the Crowne Plaza or Radisson for $55+/- plus tax.

Manhattan Village

Does anyone know how long it would take to get from LAX to Manhattan Village? We have a 4 hour layover (domestic to domestic) and I've read that the airport is really boring.

On a side note- is it possible to get internet access at LAX, paid or otherwise? (No access to an RCC or AC unfortunately.)

Cheers,

Unless you're into malls don't bother w/ Manhattan Village. Have the cab take you to downtown Manhattan Beach. It's a quaint beachside town. You can walk on the pier, and MB Blvd has lots of restaurants, shops, galleries, bars. It's about 15minutes from LAX to downtown MB.

I have a cab service I use (he uses a private car so can pick up at LAX). PM me if you want his contact info. I do a flat rate w/ him.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply :) - I am not in to malls but my mom is an she wants to take advantage of the strong CAD / USD exchange rate. ;) We are enroute to KOA so I assume the shopping there won't be as good - she wants Macy's paticularly.

Thanks for the beach suggestion - we'll definately consider that. ^

Cheers,

I have a full-day layover with my wife and two kids on Saturday Feb 23... following SJU-JFK, JFK-LAX the previous day. We fly out on Sunday early AM to BOI.

For Saturday - I'm looking for something that would be fun and entertaining but perhaps not all out exhausting such as Magic Mountain or similar. Kids are 7 and 13 - and I'd like to look at about 3-5 hours perhaps overall, but am flexible on that.

We're stying at a hotel off-airport but close, so we could rent a car if needed as well.

Thoughts? Go-Karts & arcades, beaches/boardwalks, other interesting ways to spend some time and have some fun? Appreciate any insights or perspectives....

Sincerely, -jdburns11

Where to have a drink Saturday Night at LAX

I'm at LAX for a layover from 9:45 pm to 1:25 am this Saturday. Does anyone know if there will be places open to get drinks or am I stuck reading a book or something that whole time? I'm hoping not everything closes down at 10 pm.

If so, does anyone know a hotel bar or nearby place that would be easy to get to.

I'll be arriving at the united terminal and departing with Lasca airlines, which I assume would be the international terminal.

I don't know what the hours are, but the gourmet beer bar at the Sheraton Four Points is very popular with FTers.

dsfunk congrats on your 2nd FT post ;)

Since you are not inviting along other FTers :( ;) I'm going to move this over into the LAX forum for more regionally specific advice :)

The 4Points LAX bar supposedly serves 100 beers. You might want to try that & catch their hotel shuttle. If you wanted to fork out $40 for the r.t. cab ride, you could catch a cab & head over to Manhattan Beach, which has lots of bars & restaurants. Cheers.

Just be aware that Macy's seems to do segment marketing (at least for women's apparel) more in SoCal than anywhere else my partner and I have seen. macy's in the rest of the U.S. seem to be based on selling to your average middle-class midwestern (white) american while the L.A. stores seem to focus on specific ethnic/socio-economic groups that patronise the stores (e.g., Manhattan Village seem to focus on the "can't-be-thin-enough-and-young-enough" white female demographic while nearby Hawthorne focusses on mexican/hispanic/latino tastes.

CP has really cheap fares and also a complementary hotel-airport shuttle running 24 hours.
