realistic at T2. done it several times CDG-LAX, AMS-LAX.

More details please: weekday/weekend, time, carrier/terminal, budget (taxi/public transport).

Assuming everything goes swimmingly on the inbound, I suggest Santa Monica. Can kill anywhere between 1-3 hours: go to the pier, look at the Pacific Ocean; walk along the Third Street Promenade, get some food.

Is this Saturday, arriving at 11:45 a.m. leaving at 4:45 p.m.

Arriving with UA at T7 from an international flight and departing from the same terminal and same carrier.

Budget: I would really like not to spend on more than 50 USD for transportation.

If after customs I have at least 3:45 minutes for my other flight what other things can I do. What things can I do at 3rd Street Promenade?
Anything nice to do at LAX in case my flight arrives really late or customs take a lot (or both!).

Best restaurants and shops at LAX?

If the weather is nice you will probably not have time to get to 3rd St Promenade and do much of anything. Regardless of weather on a Saturday afternoon I wouldn't recommend trying to get to 3rd St. Promenade and back with a time constraint of 4 hours. Traffic on Lincoln Blvd. will be heavy and traffic around the beach and downtown area of SM will also be heavy.

3rd Street Promenade is a outdoor shopping street (originally a street now converted fully into a pedestrian walk excluding crossing streets), along with the Santa Monica Place mall, and casual walking distance to the Santa Monica Pier and the ocean.

You can eat, shop, just wander and enjoy the street entertainment, among other things.

Since it's Saturday, it shouldn't be too bad of traffic. For getting there you can either use a taxi, take the bus (Lot C shuttle, transfer to Santa Monica Big Blue Bus 3, check the schedule, they're generally pretty on-time), or rent a car, although I would recommend one of the first two (although taxi would probably be pushing your $50 budget for transportation.

For food on the airport property, your choices would be the food court/restaurants out of security at the Tom Bradley International Terminal, Encounters Restaurant in the middle of LAX, and the various shops and restaurants in the T5/6/7/8 complex. The most unique would be the Encounters Restaurant.

If you like plane watching, a visit to In-n-Out can be fun (see other threads), where you can see the planes coming into the North runway complex.

Disagree completely. Traffic on Saturday afternoons is not as terrible (in comparison to weekdays). Get off near SMHS (Lincoln/Montana), going to pier or 3rd st promenade is straightforward from there. (Ref: noontime, 25 min from LAX to SM, private car 3 weeks ago. I believe traffic is bad because everyone is trying to find parking.)

Maybe take cab there and bus back? Will save time having to get to Lot C on the way there. Otherwise, you are probably wasting half the time on transport (time=money).

But traffic can be bad on the 405 on Sundays. I've seen it first hand many times.

Indeed it can, but that's the 405, and it can be bad at almost anytime.

Lincoln Blvd generally isn't so bad, especially on weekends.

Palm Springs?

We have 12 hours (midweek - arrive from Maui 5am - leave for London 630pm) and were wondering if its feasible driving out to Palm Springs?

It's a place we've always fancied going. Given the time we realise it probably won't be much more than a trip up the tramway and a wander round the shops. How long would we be in the car?

Any advice welcome. Thanks

I'm assuming you can carpool? Expect some traffic on front end of the way out to Palm Springs and some on the back end of way back but if you go 105-605 you can bypass downtown. Get the traffic report and adjust accordingly.

Best case scenario is about 2 hours (leave lax 9am, arrive lax 4pm), expect 3 hours each way if non-optimal times. Worst case for me was 4-5 hours getting out to Palm Springs when there were car accidents on the 10, 60 and 91 a couple years ago.

Thanks,

But I stayed at LAX.
If I chose the long layover was to save some money note exactly to visit L.A.
But thanks

In and Out on Sepulveda

If you travel light, on have at least 2 hrs to kill, and crave the delectable In and Out Burger taste...

1. Exit arrivals curbside and head to the center aisle. Look for the The Parking Spot shuttle (hard to miss) for SEPULVEDA.
2. Ride the shuttle to the parking garage. And right next to the garage is In and Out.
3. Enjoy your meal and when you're ready to go back, just go back to the garage and hop on the next shuttle.

Greetings. My wife will have an approx. 10 hour on Jun 27 at LAX. SHe's landing at 12:45 PM from PHL on US.

Having never been to LA, She'd like to take a tour of LA.

Are there any recommended tour companies that leave from LAX?
Where could she stash her bags?

thanks in advance!
Dave

The main tour companies in Los Angeles are Starline Tours, Gray Line and Los Angeles City Tours. Only the latter advertises an LAX Layover Tour.

Free time on MONDAY afternoon in LA

I have an upcoming conference in Anaheim that will have me ending by about noon on a Monday, and my flight doesn't leave from LAX until late evening. So, I'm looking for something to do.

My first thought was the Getty, but they're closed on Mondays, as are many other musuems. I'll have a car, and my main goal is to get as far away from Disney as possible. Beach isn't attractive, since I'll have just spent the previous 4 nights at a beach house.

The only thing I know for sure is that I need to save time for In&Out before I drop the car at LAX! But, that will leave me with a good 6 hours to kill.
