LACMA is open on Monday. You can kill a couple of hours there easily.

You can also visit Geffen in Little Tokyo and eat some ramen or sushi while you are there...

Or go look at some fish (instead of eating sushi) :)

LAX layover what to do?

Am doing a UA MR through LAX this week (final stop Tucson). I have a 3 hr layover LAX inbound and a 4 hr on the return. Any suggestions what to do with all this time?

You could always walk/take a hotel shuttle to the In-N-Out.
3-4 hours is not enough time to do much of anything considering the traffic.
Plus there's not much worth seeing in LA anyway. :D
Buy a day pass at the United Club and relax.

Nonsense.
Grab a cab to Manhattan Beach and soak up some sun and have a beer.

30 minutes of travel time total.

you do not say what time of day ,

I agree Manhattan Beach Pier area would be nice but I wonder how hard it will be to get a Taxi back to the Airport ?

In and Out is easy ,

and I am sure there are a few good Mexician resturants in Westchester or El Segundo which are the cities right next to the airport

Taxi is easier to find in Manhattan Beach at night (they are out in front of bars). During the day, it's hit or miss at the taxi stand near the pier. For 3 hours, I wouldn't bother leaving the airport area. In-N-Out run is a good way to stretch your legs and get some food but personally, I would buy a pass to the lounge and take a nap or something.

Although I live in MB, I have never had a problem calling a cab in short order.
Usually no more then a 20 minute wait.

I have an 8hrs layover, arriving at 2.30pm on T2 from GDL, so i need to clear immigration and customs, and my next flight to Auckland is on FJ at 10.30pm departing from TBIT, my bags will not be checked all the way (different tickets), so, i need to do something with it, i was thinking of doing the In N Out run and see planes on their parking lot, but, still 8hrs (let's say i will need 3 on total for immigration/customs on arrival and check-in and security at night), that gives me 5hrs to kill, can't rent a car since i'm 24 and the underage fees makes it really expensive and i'm on a budget, i don't want to spend more than 50dlls!! any idea what i could do on that time and for cheap?? I was thinking Santa Monica pier, but, how far is that??

Well that may limit some public transportation options as they will be most likely operating on a reduced Sunday schedule. Looking at the time table for the route 3 Santa Monica/Big Blue Bus I suppose that a trip to the Santa Monica Pier is theoretically possible but I would not risk it. I would consider an In n Out burger run, read the thread on how to do that. Also, since your tickets do not appear to be linked you need to make sure you have a contingency plan in case of delays or cancellations.

5 hours is possible to get to Santa Monica by bus and have a look around but it is tight and doesn't leave much time to do anything else. You'll have to turn around and come back after 1 hour or so.

The #3 bus will run every 15 minutes until 8pm when it runs every 30 minutes. You can be out of T2 immigration and custom by 4 pm. The problem is FJ will not be open for check in at that hour so you may have to take your luggage with you to Santa Monica... not ideal.

The bus ride is about 30 minutes and will drop you off near the pier and 3rd St Promenade. Take the LAX Shuttle C, tell the driver you are going to the "City Bus Center" so he or she will stop at the first stop outside the airport. You want to get off at the first stop outside the airport, cross the street over to the bus depot and find the stop for Santa Monica Bus. Wait for the #3 Blue bus to show up, the head sign will say either "UCLA" and "Lincoln Blvd". It is $1 per person pay on board the bus. Don't get on the bus that says "Green Line Station" as it is going in the other direction. Get off the bus in Santa Monica at 4th Street/Colorado.

Following the instruction in reverse on the way back. But remember #3 bus runs every 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes after 8 pm. If you miss the 7:45pm bus, it will make you sweat a lot ;)

Alternatively, you could get off at that first stop, continue in the direction the bus was going until the bus sign at the corner. You get on one stop later, but don't have to rush and beat the bus to the depot station if you see it coming.

Thanks guys! but with the info you gave me i'm not gonna risk going to Santa Monica, i want to see something of LA, but isn't worth it the risk of losing my flight to Nadi (and then to Auckland), probably gonna do the In N Out run!! but i need to do something with my luggage.

Anyone knows at what time FJ counters open?? can't find any info on their website (totally useless :s i can't even see my reservation there), and i know they just operate the LAX-NAN and return flight, so, is open just for the flight, but for how long before the flight, or could be possible that they just work 3 hours per night?

Cancelled flight from LAX - what to do nearby and outdoors?

My flight that was due to leave LAX at 1pm has been cancelled and I've been re booked onto a flight leaving 3 hours later. Sitting in the AC, it looks like an awesome day out... Can anybody recommend someplace (within walking distance) of T4 that has outdoor seating (even if it's just a Star bucks) so that I could make the most of my delay (enjoying the last bit of sunshine before going back to 6 months of winter)?
