I think you should book now.
If prices go up, you've locked in a guaranteed rate. If prices go down, you call them back, and they adjust your reservation to a lower rate. Just make sure you have a cancelable reservation. |

Re-arranging the trip so we hit Vegas mid-week is definitely possible, but arriving in Vegas any earlier than 26/9 isn't.
It would probably have to be the first week of October if it was going to be mid-week. Cheers, - Febs. Hotel prices mid-week (except for conventions and special shows) can be 20%-25% of what they can be on weekends. Also, you may get a much better deal (at least better seats) at the shows. Also think of hotel hopping. Foe example, I am going to Vegas next week and I am going to stay at the Las Vegas Hilton for the first three nights at a AAA rate of $57. I am then moving to the MGM Grand for a couple of nights @ $89 (incl drinks and a show) and I am ending up at the Venetian @ $139 My advice is that if you see a rate that interests you, book it (but make sure that you can cancel it - 48 hrs is typical) and then keep looking for a better deal. The 5 star mega-resorts would rather maintain their brand image than engage in fire sales. |
Rates Change Daily
Rates at Las Vegas hotels do change daily. Depending on occupancy a standard suite at the Venetian could run $139 one night and $800+ the next for the same exact room...I've seen this happen before. The specials that they run are most likey due to low occupancy hence the scattered dates that you sometimes will see for specials. If your heart is dead set on staying at the Venetian then you will have to pay the rate. Otherwise, go to your second choice.

Sorted.
Can I just say a big thanks to everyone in this thread, but especially mctrees02 - you are an absolute legend! We changed dates to a Sunday and Monday night, and while this brought the Venetian rate down to $339/night, we decided to go with something different. The first night we're spending in an MGM Grand "Hollywood Suite" (or something to that effect), for $154/night. The second night we're spending at the Wynn, for $159/night! I figure we can still take a gondola ride at the Venetian, and this way we'll get to see two different hotels, one of which (Wynn) I'm told is absolutely amazing. Oh, and we've saved a fortune over what we planned to spend! :D mctrees02 - Next time I'm in Dallas, I owe you a beer mate! Cheers, - Febs. |
That's a good choice. The Wynn is really a fun and lively hotel. We stayed there just after they opened and they still had to work out some kinks, but it was definitely the place to be. That's a good deal on your room at MGM as well, and to be honest with you when I stayed at the Venetian at the discounted rate they gave me a room with absolutely no view. My advice would be to make reservations at Delmonico's and then take the gondola ride. There's also a nice chocolate store right by where you get on the gondola.

Febs2 & mctrees02
Hello,
My husband & I are going to Vegas in Sept. I have business at another hotel down the strip & definately want to move to a better hotel for two nights: Sept. 28 & 29. The husband has never been to Vegas & I was hoping to get into the Wynn for a better price than their website is quoting. Do either of you have any info or promotional codes or insight for a good deal at any of the better hotels (Wynn, Venetian....etc)? Your help is greatly appreciated. Anyone else wanting to chime in...feel free. If a PM is better for you, no problem. Travel Safe! |
Venetian sold out for New Year's Eve--any way to get a room?
Some friends and I are planning to spend NY's in Vegas and we all agreed we wanted to stay at the Venetian. They had availability, so since one couple was unsure of their plans I waited a few days to book until I knew how many of us there were. Of course, now they are sold out in all categories (according to their website) on New Year's Eve night.
Is it likely a travel agent has inventory to some open rooms that just aren't published on the website? Would there be other suites not on the website? I just feel so terrible that I didn't go ahead and book for the confirmed couples, but I figured that if the one couple could come we'd all want to be together. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My friend is so looking forward to spending NY's eve at the Venetian. |
A room NYE at the Venetian is an extremely hot item -- for example I had a room in 2005, and I have one this year, but I couldn't get one last year.
Obviously you would either need to be a good player, or reserve way in advance. Less obviously, it is a very large property and they do get cancellations. The surest way to enjoy a last-minute trip to NYE at the Venetian, to my mind, would be to wire $25,000 in front money to the casino cage, then ask to speak to a host. The second way would be to keep bidding on Priceline for Dec 30-Jan 1 (Venetian is closed to arrivals Dec 31), try 5* Strip 399 (and up). Venetian is the only 5* property in the Strip zone, so use those free re-bids. As I recall last year we wound up at 4* Planet Hollywood through Priceline, even though it was NYE and the date was late. If I had known PH was an SPG property I might have booked directly. |
I'm sure the casino is holding rooms for their bigger gamblers (I received NYE invitations from 3 LV hotels and 1 Reno hotel, they didn't have a time limit on them, as far as I remember). It's probably worth checking daily as it becomes clearer how many casino guests are going to show up.

Thanks so much for your advice. I could certainly wire the $25,000 to the Venetian.
Can you help me a little bit with my next steps? I so greatly appreciate it, I have no experience in this area. We just need two rooms of any type (or a two bedroom suite). Thanks! |

Keep in mind that the Palazzo next door had taken a bunch of reservations for New Year's Eve (mine included), and as that property will not be ready to open in time, they are moving those reservations (mine included) over to the Venetian. I imagine availability will be tight.
But there is plenty of (even reasonable) availability at other properties. Check out Signature at MGM Grand -- it's a great product, not ideal for casino-hopping, but still convenient to the MGM (attached by walkway). |
