Those wacky Dutch fly an MD11 to Dublin?
Must be a happening place!!!
I'd fly it to DXB, but hey...what do I know ?

In any case, this is a great thread. Thank you!
Ditto great thread. MD-11 is also currently in use on SFO-AMS and AMS-SFO.

A note - I'm booked in May '07 from SFO-AMS on a 744 (doesn't say if it's a combi or full pax). Is there any chance I could end up on a 767? I had one from LHR-AMS, and its WBC seats are not very comfortable (compared to the 744 I was on previously).

Also, after reading this thread, I'm not sure if I hope it gets changed to a 773 or not... Ok, I do hope so, because I haven't been on one before

It was recently announced that AMS-SFO was migrating over to 747 in 2007 if not before - I'm not sure of the start date. A 767 substitution seems very unlikely, given the capacity difference. I found WBC on KL's 777 to be perfectly fine, but many FTers found it to be Tilt-A-Gurney hell, so I guess it just depends on your perspective.

"sir, why does everyone want row 77?"

while booking 77A on my upgrade award WBC AMS-Seoul flight the helpdesk agent asked why everyone asks for row 77. 77A and 77K are among the best seats on KL - WBC upper deck (like anything above 70), private cabin with 2 FAs for 20 people, and A and K have windows as well as luggage storage space on the side. Also, row 77 is the exit row, so you have as much legroom as you could possibly hope for.

Economy:
9A, 9B, 9C
for couples, 11-17 DE offer the only seat pairs in the aircraft on economy; D is the aisle and E has the wall to the galley, with some extra floor storage. i can confirm rumours that a few months ago the cupboard in front of row 11 has been removed, so 11 DE has unlimited legspace - in fact more than 9ABC, where your legs bump into those of the FAs seated opposite during landing and take-off.

11C and 11G are the only decent economy seats with legroom (row 10 is 2-3-2). these seats tend to be booked weeks in advance.

When I tried to reserve seats 77A+B on upcoming award flight I was told that I could not as they were emergency exit seats and can only be allocated at check-in. Is this correct

It has always been possible to pre-allocate these seats. Haven't flown WBC recently so others will have a more definitive answer.

[Added a bit later]Hmmm, checked some seat maps about 90 days ahead and the 77 row shows up all seats as 'R'. Wonder if my memory made the past better than it actually was...

I had the same... FB 'help'desk won't give them away, but reg KLM reservation will without any hesitation. Funnily enough I noticed on my way back from LA that row 77 in the NWA system (for the KLM flight) was marked as 'E' for elite flyers only...

747-400

Hi,

I just read on the KLM website that they going to start using the refurbished 747-400's. Anyone know if they will be used for the AMS-KUL-CGK route this month or in January?

Thanks.

Here is part of the story: N 8: start to enjoy new heights of comfort at 35,000 feet

This month, the second of KLM’s refurbished Boeing 747-400 aircraft will come into operation. These renewed aircraft promise an even more relaxing and enjoyable flight, with a new style of World Business Class cabin that mirrors the one typically found on the KLM Boeing 777-200 and Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Months later, I'm wondering the same thing. What kind of biz seats on AMS-KUL?

How can I tell what kind of a 737 I'll be flying on my upcoming trip (AMS-BUH?) I tried looking at the timetable, reservations, flight status, etc, but the equipment operating this flight was not revealed...

You really can't - they switch it out often. It'll be luck of the draw.

8 out of 22 B747s plying that route have been reconfigured, whereas the other 14 remain in the old configuration, so it's your best guess whether you'll get the old or the new cabins. If you leave on one of the nights when the full passenger version 744 is deployed on KL809 AMS KUL CGK you have a good chance of getting the new cabins as 4 out of 5 aircraft have been reconfigured.

What type of 747 does KLM fly SFO-AMS (full or combi)? I've got that trip coming up at the end of May, and I'm curious if I'll have new SSS or the old seats.
