Hello,

I'm flying to HND from LHR with ANA (booked via Virgin Atlantic points).

Looking to fly from HND to ITM with ANA or Japan Airlines on a separate ticket on the same day.

How long would you advise for a connection as I'll have to pass immigration, collect baggage and re-check in?

Thanks,

Wish you and your fiance had been able to enjoy the Suite together! I'm sure you two compared notes. What's the verdict (well, a little unfair given that JAL F has not been updated for a while)?
Hey sorry just got back from Australia (flew QR F and J back to JFK from SYD). I'm sure you already know but ANA First class was amazing, the suite is phenomenal, but I thought the food could have been better. P2 absolutely loved his experience in JAL First class as well however thought the hard product was old/outdated. We compared notes and came to the conclusion that ANA F has a better hard product but JAL F has better soft product. Hope you had a great flight/trip!

ANA MCT for international->domestic is 80 minutes, I would give it at least 2 hours to be safe though. Reports are immigration is back to pre-pandemic speeds, but who knows what will happen when the floodgates open. That said, in the past ANA provided F passengers with a fasttrack, not sure if that's still happening, or if the fasttrack lanes even exist anymore.

Thank you, I thought the 80 minutes are for those on the same ticket?

I don't know if separate tickets will matter unless JAL doesn't let you OLCI for some reason, forcing you to have to hit the ticket counter, ANA should check you all the way through. Either way, single or separate tickets, you'll have to still recheck your bags, so that should already be accounted for in the 80 minute MCT. Moving between the terminals via landside shuttlebuss is 7 minutes (t3-t2) or 10 minutes (t3-t1).

That said, the problem with multiple tickets is you don't get MCT protections if you miss your domestic flight, so the more time you give between flights the better. But 2 hours, should be sufficient given you will be one of the first people off the plane if you don't get hung up at immigration. In the past on ANA redemptions, if I arrived early in the morning, or after 5pm, coming from LAX immigration was always really quick. If you have a bunch of kids with you though, then you might need to add some more time.

Worth noting that going through domestic security is quite efficient and quick, or at least was pre-pandemic.

Thank you, that's incredible helpful!

I've managed to book a HND to ITM with ANA (Virgin Atlantic) that departs 3 hours after scheduled landing from LHR

As both bookings are now with ANA, are they likely to check the baggage all the way through to ITM?

There were first class fast track in Narita, Haneda never offered that.

ANA is in all likelihood not going to be checking through to JAL. It is not going to matter too much anyway. JAL has a domestic check in counter in T3, open currently from 14 to 19, cut off time is one hour prior to departure for luggage. Turn right when exiting from customs. Security cut off in the domestic terminal is 20 minutes before departure.

Interesting, didn't know that, I suppose all of my ANA flights have been in to NRT and back out of HND, so I assumed it was universal.

Yeah that's why I mentioned OLCI for JAL and checked all the way through for ANA. I suppose I wasn't clear enough. Thanks for the added context.

So with the news that restrictions will be relaxed even further in Oct. Does everyone feel they're opening up visa applications again? I will be flying from SFO to CGK with layover in HND. I'd like to extend my layover and spend 1-2 days in Tokyo. The thing is, since I have Indonesian nationality without e-passport, I still need to apply visa to enter Japan. Right now the consulate website says they're still not accepting transit visa, but wondering what happens after they loosen the restriction in Oct. I know I can wait, but I'd really love to book my flight ASAP before price goes up.

I have a couple of long layovers at HND coming up in November (to/from BKK from the US). Now that restrictions are lifting, I'd like to travel into Tokyo for a couple of hours without a tour/guide. I think this was a lot easier to do pre-Covid, so not sure if it'll be as easy even after they relax the restrictions.

Is there a convenient luggage storage area for carry-ons at HND?

Wondering a similar thing...hoping to be able to store my carry-on in the JAL J lounge but if not per the HND website they list luggage storage options.

Once you are at the lounge, there is no direct way to exit to immigration. You'd need staff assistance to get back down to the arrivals level. So if you want to go in to town, you'd basically need to go directly from arriving, and catching up on lounge time after your excursion.

I seem to remember there are lockers in connection with the Keikyu station.

They have coin lockers which you should pick up baggages at midnight, and also storage for multiple days

I've heard someone got a reply back that you can't apply until after 10/11. So hopefully your plans aren't for right after that date.

Yes, my plan will be at the end of the year, so way after 10/11. Where did you hear the news from?

Edit: also did you mean 11th of October or 10th of November? Considering this is an international forum, I want to make sure
