I'm doing something similar, don't want to give up my JL F, so switching to KE at NRT for the last mile. I would love to bring checked bags, but I'm not certain JL will interline to JL and visa-versa, so I'm going carryon only. Please report back if you find out that SQ is allowed, will be good to know for future reference.

Just post the question in the SQ forum, am sure an answer will come quickly. No need to search too much....

USA passports.... NRT-KUL-DPS

J award, JL and MH... SFO-NRT(JL)... NRT-KUL-DPS(MH)

Had a 2 hr connection in NRT, from JAL to MH (arrived 445PM depart 1030PM)

Then MH changed the flight to an AM departure.... Now arrive NRT (on JL) at 4:50PM and depart the next day at 10:00AM on MH

Are we screwed??

thx

Unfortunately, that is not a valid itinerary. There are no overnight stays at NRT. You would have to enter Japan, which is not allowed for tourists. They likely wouldn't even let you board on your JL flight without a same day onward ticket from NRT. That sucks though. I hope you can figure out something else that works!

Funny, AA and MH dont seem concerned. Sucks.

Another thought.... Could they fly NRT >> xxx >> NRT

Where XXX is 'a place that allows overnight stay? In japan, overnight transit pax...outside japan a hotel? Like in Korea? (Desperate here....)

Were these separate tickets, or a single itinerary from AA? If on a single ticket you might be able to get AA to fix it for you. Though on awards, I've found them to be less helpful, even with EXP status.

One ticket, booked directly w AA over the phone.

Totally useless (same when I was a CK)- MHs fault, we cannot fix

And they are still offering this routing as a legal connection on other days.

It is a legal connection for all intents and purposes, as only tourists are blocked from entering Japan. Business people, students, citizens, people in relationships, and others are allowed and can take that route with no problem. Unfortunately looking at google flights, there aren't many flights that will take off after 5pm without some crazy routing. But you can contact MH and see if they can get you on one of those crazy routings. Probably the only possible route you have at the moment without booking outside of OW points to get to indonesia.

Does anyone know if the following works? Does it require Zipair to have a transit counter airside?

UA: LAX-NRT
Zipair: NRT-BKK

(There was some discussion upthread that does not seem conclusive.)

Thanks!

It would currently require Zipair to have a transit counter, as long as Japan has not fully reopened the borders.

According to Zipair's website, they don't accept transit passengers with the exception of a few of their own routes.

Yes, I did this to avoid an overnight transit in NRT due to a schedule change. I can enter Japan but P2 cannot.

GUM-NRT UA
NRT-BKK TG
BKK-NRT ZG (overnight flight)
NRT-NOU SB

That being said ZG refused P2 airside transit in NRT while checking in at BKK. So had to book the cheapest international ZG flight out of NRT to airside transit, that was thankfully only $100~ day of departure.

No, since ZG wont airside check in at NRT. If LAX-NRT was on ZG then yes.

Im kind of worried about my inbound. Ill fly to NRT from BKK via Zipair. Will i be able to check in for my NH NRT-ORD airside?
ZG will refuse check in at BKK unless you can enter Japan or onward connection is ZG. Book a cheap ZG flight, say NRT-ICN. Then once you get to NRT cancel it so they dont search for you as a no show. ZG also has agents on jetway while deplaning that are checking onward boarding passes to ensure its ZG. If its not, you need to make sure youre carry on only AND have onward boarding pass. I can enter Japan so wasnt stopped at check in at BKK but flagged on jetway. P2 cannot enter Japan so was flagged at check in.

Fully vaccinated. Question/clarification for travel from USA to India via Japan:

1. Any COVID-19 testing required for transit through Japan? Flying Jun 13 on Japan Airlines SFO - NRT (Tokyo, Narita), and within 2 hours NRT (Tokyo, Narita) - BLR.

Thanks in advance

No. Transit passengers aren't tested or asked to show proof. You only need to worry about the entry requirements for India. You probably already know those, but from what I remember Americans who preupload their vax information before journey don't need to take a predeparture test.
