Currently at Gate 74 waiting to board EK319. My transit at NRT was painless. SQ arrived at Gate 35 and I was on the bus at Gate 28A about 30 minutes after landing. Sad to see how completely empty NRT is. I was the only person on inter-terminal bus which seems to be "on demand" as we departed as soon as I boarded. Both SQ and EK at NRT were aware of my complete itinerary. Sign board with my name on arrival, and the EK agent knew I was connecting from LAX. She did a doc check and issued my BPs at the EK gate.

B2B flights are doable in many places these days, just currently not in Japan.

The Japanese rules clearly says "transit to a 3rd county" is allowed. There are a few exceptions that works just fine, most notably mainland US to Guam via Japan. But I would imagine SQ to be quite by the book, so no leniency on the rules and you'd be stopped in Singapore.

Yes that would work, transit on separate tickets is a pretty standard exercise these days.

Currently (7:45pm) sitting in NRT T1 waiting for the Ethiopian flight so Seoul which departs in about 3 hours.
Important thing to note that wasn't clear to me is that when they say the ANA lounge is open until the last departure, they mean the last ANA departure (not other *A airlines). So, the lounge is closed... Luckily I grabbed a snack from the 7-11 when I got here and I'm not hungry.

In theory yes, there are no boarding pass checks for the bus. But be aware if the lounge is very crowded, they may restrict priority pass access. Not sure what time of day NRT JFK flies these days....

Thank you so much for the quick reply! Layover is from 7:30am-11:30am... I figure it's worth a shot as I have plenty of time.

For those wondering about late arrivals for a connection. The head of the cabin just came to explain the reason for our delay after taking of from Ho Chi Minh City. The plane coming down from Narita had to wait for connecting passengers from the US. So another data point for flights being held to not strand passengers.

separate zipair connection in tokyo
So i'm trying to fly from lax to bangkok on zip air with a connection in NRT. The problem is that they only ticket non stop flights so I will have to book 2 separate tickets. Zip air customer support has refused to give me a firm answer, but will I be allowed to board in LAX? Has anyone done this? Thanks!

I don't have any experience, but this https://www.zipair.net/en/important/60 would imply to me its possible.

Thanks guys for the answer! So when you say current requirements of Japan and Narita, do they also allow separate ticket layover from different airlines? Like zip to tokyo and then asiana airline to Seoul for example?

The website is pretty clear that it is only connections to/from limited destinations they offer connections. Though Zip specifically writes that passengers connecting to other airlines will have to go through the arrivals process, somehow I doubt that the NRT staff would force people to the arrivals flow if they can document an onwards separate ticket on another airline, and don't have checked bags. But the question is if Zip would allow you to board, as it is against their rules.
