Why use the CSR to charge Suica if it doesn't code as travel?

I don't - as I said, most of us have been using PASMO instead for a loooong time (for exactly this reason). Pasmo was still coding as travel before the visa debacle started.

Was just able to recharge PASMO in Apple wallet twice using my Chase sapphire reserve. Hopefully this means their backend has been updated like Suica was recently. Will verify whether it’s still coding as travel once it posts.

I suspect you probably won't know until the 27th at the earliest. What about ICOCA?

Nothing Phone (2A) possibly a new contender for a Osaifu Keitai/Mobile Suica enabled Android device. It is considered a mid-range/budget priced phone rather than flagship, so not sure if they'll also limit Mobile Suica to JP purchased models or possibly tie it to a region setting to save on the Felica licensing fees.

12 GB JP model starts shipping end of March with 8GB release to be announced.

It is dual nano pSIM, possibly stand-by https://www.gsmarena.com/nothing_phone_(2a)-12760.php

Nothing's OS update policy is 3 years major updates and 4 years security https://9to5google.com/2023/06/01/no...pdates-policy/ while Pixel 7A gets 3 years major updates and 5 years security

Unlocked Pixel 7A purchased in JP about 47,000 if you do COD https://kakaku.com/keitai/smartphone/model/M0000001005/ or 54,000 via official store https://store.google.com/jp/product/pixel_7a?hl=ja and comes with pSIM + eSIM dual setup. I've read Pixels are fairly popular in Japan, too, so there's probably a bit more community support.

Does anyone know if you can pay for a retail purchase with multiple Suica (or a combination of Sucia and Pasmo) cards? I know the card maxes out at 20,000 yen, so it's not possible to make larger purchases on just one card.

I have never encountered a place that allowed this. I have been able to put 20,000 via Suica down and pay the balance with a credit card.

Thanks. I was hoping to take advantage of the 4x on Amex Gold Business with the Suica.

How fast can you reload your Suica? For me it's almost instantaneous, using Apple Pay. So maybe swipe 20k, reload, repeat?

You can have a bunch of suica/pasmo/icoca cards on your device, so there is no need to reload. The issue is that retailers IME aren't set up to allow you to spread a payment across multiple such payments. As mentioned the best I could do was to put 20000yen on suica and pay the remainder via credit card.
